A lot of movies use film festivals as springboards. Gone Girl is one such film and is technically not a feature film although it has the backing of big companies like Regency Enterprise and Pacific Standard that pumped an impressive 61 million dollars into the project. The movie was first aired at the New York Film Festival on September 26th 2014 and is based on a book by the same name by Gillian Flynn who also wrote the screenplay
Stevie J and Joseline recently revealed they are pregnant and now they the stars of the Love & Hip Hop Atlanta show have posted on Instagram their first ‘baby bump’ photo. The 27 year old expecting reality television star posted on her Instagram account a photo displaying her baby daddy rubbing her belly. Also in the photo, is R&B singer Johnny Gill, who is a friend of the couple and a colleague of Stevie J. The 42 year old singer and music producer also posted a solo photo of his pregnant girlfriend on his Instragram page.

Mick Schumacher, Michael Schumacher’s son has confirmed that his father is apparently slowly recovering from his medically induced coma after he suffered severe head injuries from a skiing accident. The recent updates about the slow pace of recovery for the legend were provided by the Younger Schumacher to French F1 commentator Jean-Louis Moncet. Okay, Moncet has basically quarterbacked the story from day 1 concerning the Schumacher recovery, but he was recently in trouble because of implicating his head gear as part of the reason for his extensive injuries.
A lot of people have experienced the slight embarrassment of having their credit card declined during a purchase, and even during a date, however, when our president Barrack Obama meets the same fate, that’s news. Last month, Obama was eating with the first lady at one of the fancy restaurants in downtown Manhattan when his credit card was declined. “I guess I don’t use it enough, so they thought there was some fraud going on,” he told CNN. “Luckily, Michelle had hers.” Fortunately Michelle Obama had a credit card on hand and paid for the meal.

Whiplash is one such movie, after premiering at the Sundance Film Festival under the US Dramatic Category the film was picked by Sony Pictures Worldwide for distribution. The movie, written and directed by Damien Chazelle was originally floating around with no studio making any commitments to it at which point Chazelle took out 15 pages and made a short film that attracted Blum-house Productions, Bold Films and Right of Way Films.

Films like Boyhood, The Grand Budapest Hotel and now Under the Skin have proven that not all is lost and that good film making is still very much present with us. Directed and Co written by Jonathan Glazer the movie is based on a book by the same name written by Michael Faber.
2014 has seen a myriad of films including a host of foreign language films among the foreign language films that have made their rounds is the Polish movie Ida. The movie written and directed by Pawel Pawlikowski was first shown outside of Poland at the 2013 Toronto Film Festival where it won the FIPRESCI special presentations award and has been selected for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2015 Oscars as well as the People’s Choice Award for Best European film at the 27th European Film awards.

L’incannu Du Lac known in English as Stranger by the Lake is definitely one of those movies that only a French film maker could make. A story that originally leaked on TMZ had the entertainment community in uproar; Daniele Watts was recently arrested in broad daylight and her claim as she explained to reporters that her arrest was based on a racial profile. Danielle explained that the reason she was arrested was because people could still not look at a black woman and a white man on the streets without thinking prostitute.

Whereas the movie is distributed by Fox Searchlight Pictures and produced by American Empirical Pictures, Indian paintbrush and Babelsberg Studio it falls in the independent film category as it did its rounds on the film festival circuit and opened in four theatres in North America on June 15th 2014.
2014 has seen a host of main stream movies but there are also a large number on independent films out there that are only known within the film festival circuit. Only Lovers Left is one such movie, after its release at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013 it has done its rounds and only managed to get a theatre release in February of 2014. The movie is directed by Jim Jarmusch who is a well known independent director, actor, writer, producer and editor.

Reitman is known for his work on Thank You for Smoking, Juno and Young Adult and was expected to bring hi unique touch to this movie, make it the great of work that was Juno.
