Netflix 4K Customers to Pay Additional $3-4 Subscription Rates; Price Increase Allows 4-device Simultaneous Playing - Though Users May Need More Content
One of America's leading High Definition (HD) streaming services will be having a hike in its subscription rate. In a report from HD Guru, it is confirmed that Netflix customers, who would opt for a 4K High definition package, will pay for an additional $3-4 per month to be able to enjoy the HD content of the streaming service provider.
A spokesperson from the leading cable provider, Netflix, confirmed that a "new subscriber or current subscribers who signed for 4k Ultra High Definition television package" should shell out $11.99 per month.
The notable increase is $4 per month for HD TV subscribers that signed prior to May 9th 2014. On the other hand, it will be an additional $3 to subscribers who signed before May 9, because Netflix already had a $1-price hike on its HD package for May 9 onwards' for new subscribers.
The Netflix representative also cleared that "current subscribers already paying for 4K content will be grandfathered into the older $7.99 a month plan until August 12, 2016." The additional rate will also allow customers for playing HD shows simultaneously in four different devices.
Netflix's problem with Verizon FiOS has also been solved, which means service's customer can now enjoy a consistent 3280 x 2160 playing resolution.
The Verge also reported that the price increase is due to "increased costs of producing, acquiring, and distributing 4k content." It can be recalled the Netflix paid Verizon and Comcast "for peering agreements to permit their subscribers to be able to stream 4k at the higher speeds needed for viewing."
Currently, Netflix HD streaming service is limited to 4K televisions such as Samsung, LG, Sony, and Vizio. To be able to enjoy the 4K Ultra High Definition shows, the customers need a minimum of 25 Mbps download speed.
The report also said that the extra cash needed for an HD monthly subscription will not be a problem to Netflix's current 4K customers. However, according to After Dawn, some HD clients will think that the increase is not justified and fair as the 4K content of Netflix is still limited.
To some, the contents may not be worth paying for an extra $4, as the only content accessible as of now are "Breaking Bad," "House of Cards," "Ghostbusters," "Ghostbusters 2, a nature documentary, the aforementioned "Blacklist," and "The Smurfs 2," After Dawn reports.
