Ben Affleck's 'Gone Girl' Co-Star Rosamund Pike: I Had To Gain, Lose Weight, Train With Boxer Holly Lawson
"Gone Girl" actress Rosamund Pike recently revealed what she had to do for her titular role in her recent film with Ben Affleck.
"I had to gain and lose weight for those scenes three times over! I had to be slimmer in L.A. and heavier in the Ozarks, and then heavier and slimmer in the studio, so I had to do it three times over," Pike told Vulture.
The 35-year-old British actress said she had two weeks each time for each fluctuation and it was "quite intense" and was "like turning your body into a chemistry lab."
"I couldn't escape it, the weight-loss period. I took time out to get a pedicure, and 'Extreme Weight Loss!' was on the TV. I was like, 'I can't get away from it!'" Pike laughed.
Pike also shared she did not quite take up boxing but trained with welterweight boxer, Holly Lawson and "anyone who is going to go into the ring will usually rest over their fighting weight, and then lean out to go into the ring."
This made Pike consult Lawson as she is one of those who are "very conversant in being one weight, and then having to drop in a confined period of time," and fortunately, her body cooperated to a certain extent.
"But I don't know how good it is for you. It's probably better to be gaining weight steadily over a long period of time, as with the baby," said the actress who made her onscreen debut as a Bond girl in the 2002 film "Die Another Day."
In another interview with Indie Wire, Pike revealed she had not read Gillian Flynn's 2012 novel, which the movie was based on, before talking to director David Fincher "so the whole thing came together which is actually probably good."
"If I had read the book, as an actress, you might have thought, 'Oh, I wonder if they're going to make this into a movie?' And then I might have been hungry for it," she explained.
She added she heard that Fincher wanted to talk to her about something, and then she heard it was this and then she read it and "the giddy cocktail of the two combined."
Before "Gone Girl," Pike also starred in "Pride and Prejudice," "Wrath of the Titans" and "Jack Reacher."
After topping the weekend box office this week, "Gone Girl" will go against "Dracula Untold" next week.
