'Bones' Season 10 News: Why Lance Sweets Died
"Bones" Season 10 saw FBI psychologist Lance Sweet, portrayed by John Francis Daly. This development has made so many fans angry given that Sweets was a well-loved character. More than the fact that he died, it is the manner of his death that sends fans raving. Sweets was beaten to death in an effort to find a document that would help FBI special agent Seeley Booth and forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan, played by David Boreanaz and Emily Deshanel respectively. Another reason for the fans' reaction is that this death never leaked despite the episode being produced a month earlier. It was really a surprise for them.
So, the question now is why it happened.
The death of Sweets is something that was unexpected even among the production team. However, John Francis Daly is already making a name for himself behind the camera. He was given a chance to be the director of "Vacation" which stars Christina Applegate, Ed Helms, and Chris Hemsworth. With that on the table, there was just no way he can continue playing Sweets' role in the show. According to executive producer Stephan Nathan, in an interview with USA Today, Daly would be gone for up to four months which is just difficult to explain in the show. They simply opted to have him permanently removed from the story, which was indeed very difficult for them.
According to John Francis Daly, also in an interview with USA Today, directing is a childhood dream which, once presented on his door, he just cannot refuse. He is hoping that fans of "Bones" would understand his departure.
This coming Thursday at 8 pm, the show "Bones" will cover the investigation into Sweets death. According to Nathan, this investigation is to "honor the memory of Sweets and that f his son." The death of Sweets along with Daisy's pregnancy will be the focus of the season. Because of Sweets' death, "Bones" will be entering a dark side as the show deal with the tragedy.
We may miss Lance Sweets but we should also be happy for Daly. It's not every day that an opportunity like this presents itself.
"Bones" season 10 will runs every Thursday at 8 pm on Fox.
