Agents of SHIELD Episode 1 release date is on Tuesday, September 23, at its new 9 PM time slot on ABC. The shift to a later screening hour, says Laura Prudom of Variety, "exemplifies a small but meaningful recalibration in the show's mechanics - a transition to an older, wiser and darker version of a series..." Neither ABC nor TV Guide has a complete Agents of SHIELD Season 2 episode guide available at this point. However, it is already known that the title of the Agent of Shield premiere will be "Shadows" while the second episode which airs September 30is "Heavy is the Head."

Returning for their second season on the show are cast regulars Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, Ming-na Wen as Melinda May, Brett Dalton as Grant Ward, Chloe Bennett as Skye, Iain de Caestecker as Leo Fitz, and Elizabeth Henstridge as Jemma Simmons. There will also be two additional regular cast members: B.J Britt who will be reprising the Agent Antoine Triplett character he played last season and Nick Blood who will portray the mercenary Lance Hunter.

For the Agents of SHIELD Season 2 premiere, Screen Rant reveals that Hayley Atwell will guest star as Agent Peggy Carter. Also, the site says that the second season will be split up between the fall segment and the spring segment, with the new 'Agent Carter' TV series "serving as a bridge" between the two parts of the Agents of SHIELD show. The spinoff 'Agent Carter' show, which will comprise of eight episodes, will air beginning January 2015 until the start of the next half of the Agents of SHIELD series. Agent Peggy Carter, who was one of the original founders during the 1940s of the now collapsed SHIELD (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) organization, may be seen in the flashback scenes of the Agents of SHIELD show explaining how HYDRA managed to infiltrate Nick Fury's top secret agency early in the espionage game.

Patton Oswalt will also return in Season 2's first episode to reprise his role as Billy Koenig, another of the original SHIELD founders. Aside from Atwell and Oswalt, the other guest stars will be Adrian Pasdar as Brigadier General Glenn Talbot, Henry Simmons as Alphonso "Mack" Mackenzie, Lucy Lawless as Isabelle "Izzy" Hartley, Wilmer Calderon as Idaho, Reed Diamond as Daniel Whitehall, Brian Patrick Wade as Carl Creel, Matthew Glave as Roger Browning, Simon Kassianides as Sunil Bakshi, George Stephanopoulos as self, Raquel Gardner as Carla Talbot, Ben Turner Nixon as Hydra Officer, Franco Vega as Military Leader, Rich Ceraulo as Soldier #1, and JB Tadena as Private Tilden.
