PlayStation Network Down: Hackers Claim Responsibility
Having trouble logging in into your PSN Account over the weekend? Well, hackers on Twitter (@LizardSquad) have claimed responsibility for the attack on the network and has since then made a bomb threat to Sony President John Smedley, which effectively grounded the Airlines Flight 362. The flight has been sent safely on its way. As of right now, the FBI is investigating the flight incident, an SOE Rep told Kotaku.
Gamers who are attempting to play games like World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, and Diablo III on Battle.net will be facing a lot of difficulty due to the alleged hacking. Guild Wars 2 and EVE Online have also reported login issues, and may have been caused by the hacking as well. According to Blizzard's official Twitter account, they have already resolved their server issues.
On Sony's official blog, Sid Shuman addressed the issue by saying," Like other major networks around the world, the PlayStation Network and Sony Entertainment Network have been impacted by an attempt to overwhelm our network with artificially high traffic," he continued by saying, "Although this has impacted your ability to access our network and enjoy our services, no personal information has been accessed. We will continue to work towards fixing this issue and hope to have our services up and running as soon as possible. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused." Also, the official PlayStation Support Tweeted that they are "working to fix the issue as soon as possible" but that there is "no time frame" for when service will be fully operational.
By Monday, August 25, 2014, Sony has announced that the PlayStation Network is now back online.
The reason behind the threat and the hacking is still as of yet unclear.
