“Fantastic Four” Reboot Movie Spoilers: More Grounded and Real World
Though still officially untitled, Fox's latest live-action film adaptation of Marvel's Fantastic Four comic book series already has a confirmed theater release date, which is June 19, 2015. It also has a confirmed cast which includes Miles Teller as "Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic," Kate Mara as "Susan Storm/Invisible Woman," Michael B. Jordan as "Johnny Storm/Human Torch," Jamie Bell as "Ben Grimm/The Thing," Toby Kebbel as "Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom," and Reg E. Cathey as "Dr. Franklin Storm."
Directed by Josh Trank based on a screenplay by Simon Kinberg and Matthew Vaughn, the Fantastic Four reboot will be a coming of age movie for the young superheroes. In an interview with ScienceFiction, writer and producer Kinberg revealed, "We're treating this as the origin of the Fantastic Four so in future movies you'd have them on sort of splashier adventures to some extent, but this one we tried to ground the science as much as possible and make it feel like it could take place in our world before it cantilevers into other worlds." He also said, "It's a much more grounded, gritty, realistic movie than the last couple movies."
The new movie was earlier rumored to be based on "Ultimate Fantastic Four," a separate Marvel version with a more modernized imagining of the long running comic series which has a younger set of heroes with a different origin as to how they got their super powers and which is set in present day New York City. However, in an interview with Latino-Review, Kinberg clarified, "...this Fantastic Four movie is sort of a celebration of all Fantastic Four comics that have preceded it...We have elements from the original Fantastic Four...We also owe a lot to the Ultimate's and the current crop of Fantastic Four comics and you'll see that...It's really sort of inspired by all the different history of the Fantastic Four comics...There isn't one comic that defines the movie"
