Mark Romanek Set to Direct New Horror Prequel to Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining," Which Will Be Called "Overlook Hotel"
"Come play with us...come play with us..."
Bet you thought you'd heard enough of that, right? Wrong! Talks of a prequel to "The Shining" have been happening for a while now, with Alfonso Cuaron rumored to direct. However, Cuaron put those rumors to rest when he took on the project of directing the film "Gravity." However, recent news is causing horror fans everywhere to rejoice.
Filmmaker Mark Romanek has signed on to "The Shining" prequel, which is going to be called "Overlook Hotel." Romanek will be paired with screenwriter Glen Mazzara, who formerly worked on "The Walking Dead." Reports say that Mazzara's script is in fact based very loosely on what was originally the prologue to his novel "The Shining," before it was published in the 1970s.
Romanek's style of filmmaking will no doubt be interest to see, especially with viewers keeping in mind the directorial techniques of Stanley Kubrick.
This film will answer questions that viewers may have had about the origins of the Overlook Hotel and how it came to the state it was in when the Torrances came to town. However, this may ruin the mystery for some, who would prefer to leave the Overlook shrouded in fog and snow and not reveal the reasons why the hotel had the power to drive Jack Torrance insane.
Although the film's advertising is likely to play heavily upon its connection to the successful "Shining," "Overlook Hotel is likely to be a quality thriller in its own right.
No release date has been given for the film at this time.
