The Wisecarvers Reveal the Stories Behind the Making of "Armor"
Award winning group, The Wisecarvers, are becoming known as one of Christian music's most exciting ministries! With relevant, original songs, heartfelt vocals and live instrumentation as a part of each service, they strive to share the hope of Jesus Christ with the lost and to remind believers of that same hope.
Hallels: Thank you for doing this interview with us. How does it feel to have a new album "Armor" out?
We are thrilled! Thrilled, thankful, blessed - We just can't say enough! As we would prepare for each step of the recording process, God would graciously lead us through! We enjoy this album. We enjoy sharing the songs with people and seeing them minister to their lives. Thank you for interviewing us! As a group we'll try to put our thoughts together and share our hearts with you!
Hallels: Let's take a step back: tell us how did you as a family felt God's call to sing for Him? Are you singing for him full-time now?
Once God has placed a calling in your heart, you just know that's what you were born to do! We have always sang at family events and at our home church but then God opened the door for us to carry our ministry to other churches in the area. As we began to walk through those doors, we also began to understand our calling. With all the traveling we do I guess you could consider us full time, but we do still work flexible jobs in our home time with kind folks that work around our schedule. However, this year is turning out to be our busiest year yet so who knows where God will take us!
Hallels: While there are many groups these days who do not write their own material, but you've written every track on this new record yourselves. Was this deliberate?
Actually, it wasn't. Our plan was to do as many of our original songs as we could but always include a couple of hymns or classics on each project. As we started sorting through the songs we had written and praying about which ones to keep, there wasn't a message we didn't want to share!
Hallels: Why did you choose to name your album "Armor"?
The names of our albums tend to reflect where we are in our lives. Our first CD with Crossroads was named "Journey". We had started a new chapter in our ministry and were just beginning this new "journey". We're still on that journey but we're also fighting along the way - We're learning more and more what it means to put on the whole armor of God and fight for the things we know He has called us to do!
Hallels: Compared to your previous album "Journey," did you approach the making of this new album any differently?
To be honest, we were a bit scared! When you record an album there is so much excitement! There is no better feeling than seeing one of our songs minister to someone! Then, it's time for a new album and you can't help but worry that it won't live up to the standard of the last one! However, we put all we had into this album and are over joyed at the way it turned out and humbled at the response so far!
Hallels: I really love how your songs are so conversational, such that they address our situations head on. In this regard, I really love "It Was Jesus." What was the inspiration behind this song?
The lyrics of "It Was Jesus" are very personal for us. Tammy was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer a little over 8 years ago. They gave her 6 months to a year to live. She went through immense testing, had severe headaches and other major health issues that go along with cancer. One night she woke up from a dream God had given her and the headaches had stopped. They never came back. The doctor told her whatever she was doing, to keep doing it! God had healed her! The spots of cancer still showed up in x-rays and scans for a while but as of a few months ago, they are gone as well! Our God is faithful! Those types of moments are what this song is about. And not just the big miracles, but the small ones as well! There is no other explanation, there is no other option. It was Jesus and there's no way to deny it!
Hallels: In my review I raved about the song "Don't You Think You Ought to Worship." Tell us more about this song.
This song was written from personal feelings and conviction. How many times have we sought God, pleading with him for request after request and simply forgotten to say "Thank You". He wakes us up every morning, gives us air to breathe, a mind to think, a soul and heart to feel, works miracles on our behalf. He gives so much and receives so little in return. This song is a reminder, even for ourselves, that God deserves our praise. Not just because of what He does, but simply because He's worthy.
Hallels: For our readers who would like to know more about you and your music, where can they go?
