'Duck Dynasty' Reality Family The Robertsons To Open 'The Duck Commander Family Musical' in Las Vegas Feb 2015
The Robertson's, best known as the family from the popular A&E reality series "Duck Dynasty" have announced their next big venture. They will be taking their signature brand to Las Vegas to create a musical with the help of a team from Broadway in 2015.
According to The New York Times, the musical will be named "The Duck Commander Family Musical" is expected to open in February 2015 at the Rio hotel and casino where other current acts are the Chippendales and Penn & Teller.
The Robertson family themselves will not take the stage, actors will be selected to play the family members in the musical that is expected to run approximately 90 minutes.
Willie Robertson, chief executive of the Duck Commander company, shared with the Times that the family has approval rights over the script and casting for the musical and said making the show has been "a great ride so far."
"We've enjoyed the process of making a musical alongside the team who is interested in telling the Robertson family story from an outside perspective," said Willie Robertson.
The show's Broadway producer, Michael David, and its musical director, Jeff Calhoun, who is gay, shared that they had found Phil Robertson's comments on the gay community offensive but they were already onboard with the project at the time and have chosen to address the remarks in the musical itself.
"The show will end up challenging the views and assumptions of people across the political spectrum, more than most theater does," said David, who sports a long gray beard like Phil Robertson. "The Robertson's are so unusual, their story so juicy, and theater shouldn't be limited to telling stories about people you resemble or revere."
Does still sound like something you would be interested in checking out live if you were in Vegas?
