Facebook Messenger Privacy Settings for iPhone: What You Need to Know
The relationship between everything Facebook does and its privacy concern backlash is inevitable. In fact, over the last few years, users are lot more aware about their privacy rights and want experts to answers everything they use. That is the only reason why this new messenger application from Facebook has created such a buzz in recent months.
It all started in early April this year, when Facebook slowly started forcing its users all across the world to download the Messenger. Earlier, a single application allowed members to use all the services, but after acquiring 'What's App', Facebook believed that a new messenger app will work better. While many believe that it's a clever move, most iPhone, iPad and iPod users have criticized Facebook's ways of forcing the messenger on them. Furthermore, news on privacy invasion and security compromise has led many users to bar the app completely. But is it really a smart move? Aren't Facebook messages important?
A smarter solution is to look into the matter rather than simply believing the rumors. The truth is that most of iOS applications ask for permissions to access address book, GPS, text message, pictures, and microphone. However, rumors have made users get extra cautious with messenger app creating many misconceptions. This messenger application asks for such permissions to add people in their messenger chat list, share location when requested, and record audio. In fact, the text message access is not for Facebook to read your personal details but simply to verify the code during phone number verification process after the download. Facebook developers and security officials maintain that they do not store or use any sensitive information from your phone. The messenger application has been developed solely with the purpose of making original Facebook app faster and better in the coming years.
However, if you'd still like to work on privacy setting, it's very easy; Go to the 'Privacy' options under 'Settings' and turn off the location service for Facebook. You do it for other services like microphone, contact list, and so on. Apple iOS 7 and iOS 8 provide settings to deal with such privacy breaches.
