Ebola Infected Nurse Nina Pham Is In Good Condition While Being Transferred To NIH's Isolation Unit
Nina Pham, the 26-year-old Dallas nurse who has contracted Ebola in Dallas after attending to an infected man from Liberia, was transported from Dallas to a special medical facility located in Maryland, Thursday, WFAA reported.
According to the National Institute of Health, Nina Pham was taken from Dallas, Texas' Presbyterian Hospital to Bethesda, Maryland's NIH Center. The NIH has an isolation unit built especially for life-threatening, highly-contagious diseases; three other similar facilities are built in three other states within US.
The officials of Texas' Presbyterian released information, Wednesday, that the nurse was still in good condition.
Pham, together with other medical health professionals, left Dallas aboard an ambulance, Thursday, around 6 p.m. Dozens of hospital personnels and nurses waved in good cheers bearing messages of well-wishes and affection. The ambulance went straight to Dallas' Love Field, where Pham boarded the same jet that flew her co-worker to Atlanta on Wednesday. The said executive jet took off around 7 p.m.
Wendell Watson, the hospital spokesman, said that the nurse's transfer was necessary for numerous other employees are being assessed for symptoms and are not able to work. Pham will be monitored by the NIH staff who have specialized in critical care and infectious diseases.
The other nurse who has tested positive for the same disease is Amber Joy Vinson, a 29-year-old lady. She was also transferred to another special medical facility, specifically in Atlanta.
Both nurses Vinson and Pham were involved in the provision of care for an Ebola patient Thomas Duncan, who died last week at the Presbyterian hospital. Although the two wore personal protective gear, which included protective footwears, hazardous materials suits, and face shields; inserted catheters, dealt with body fluids and drew blood the right way, both got infected, still.
On Thursday, the Federal health officials released a statement saying they still do not know how they caught the Ebola virus from Thomas Duncan.
Nina Pham will be transported to Maryland's municipal airport, a small airport 35 mi NW of NIH. Lt. Clark Pennington, the city police, said that the county, the city and their state policemen are coordinating with each other to make sure that she'll be brought to the hospital as fast as possible.
