Marvel Confirms Spider-Gwen Series: Writer Jason Latour and Artist Robbi Rodriguez Set to Make the New Heroine; New Series Tagged as Product of Viewer's Request
Movie and comic buffs can jump up-and-down as announcements about books and series based on well-loved superheroes seem to endlessly flow every day.
Clearly not running out of something exciting to say, Marvel confirmed the Spiderman's female version is currently underway, Comic Book Movie reports. The new heroine, named "Spider-Gwen," is set to have her own book series after her initial stint in "Edge of Spider Verse #2" as a Web-head of an alternate universe.
Marvel released the cover art that will be used on their newest book with a female lead character. The comics-company unveiled the announcement during the New York Comic Con and also announced the comeback of writer Jason Latour, artist Robbi Rodriguez and colorist Rico Renzi.
Latour, Rodriguez and Renzi are the geniuses behind the "Edge of Spider Verse #2," where Gwen Stacey's character was introduced. Bam Smack Pow reported that Spidey-fanatics were enticed with Stacey's character in the said book series.
Because fans and readers of the Spiderman series have been vocal about their interest and liking towards Stacey, Marvel has just made their wish come true and now they only need to wait until February before "Spider-Gwen" series is set to start.
Aside from "Spider-Gwen," another female protagonist with powerful webs is set to debut in her own book. Comics Alliance reported that 'Silk', who shares the same bite of the spider that has given powers to Peter Parker, will also have its series launch on February.
It is Silk who Marvel initially eyed as the newest spider-bitten heroine but after Gwen Stacey got a lot of fan-followers, Marvel will now have three Spider series with woman protagonists, Spider-Gwen, Silk and Spiderwoman. Aside from the three, X-men all female series is also underway.
Silk's own book series will be penned by Robbie Thompson and will be illustrated by Stacey Lee. Thompson was known for writing "Supernatural" TV series while Lee was noted for her work in New Warriors. Lee is also creating a buzz because Marvel has a slim but growing percent of female employees.
Fans of Marvel comics openly raved about the great news and it is clear that the comic's new generation books is taking 'girl-power' into another level.
