'Gossip Girl's' Blair Waldorf Leighton Meester Sings Mariah Carey, Releases Debut Album 'Heartstrings'
After rising to fame as Blair Waldorf in "Gossip Girl" with Blake Lively, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, Ed Westwick and Taylor Momsen, Leighton went on to become a Broadway star and a recording artist.
Over two months after her Broadway show "Of Mice and Men," Leighton Meester will release her debut album titled "Heartstrings," Beauty World News has learned.
In a recent interview with Billboard for the promotion of "Heartstrings," she shared the artists that have influenced her the most.
Among the musicians she loved listening to since she was young are Led Zeppelin, Tori Amos, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac, Robert Plant, Tom Petty and Kate Bush.
When it comes to lyrics, she cited Paul Simon, Bonnie Raitt and The Police.
During the interview, she also said being perceived as an actor-turned-musician is "not such a bad thing."
While promoting her debut album "Heartstrings," Leighton Meester also stars in "The Judge" which stars Robert Downey Jr. and ranked fifth at the recent weekend box office behind "Gone Girl," "Dracula Untold," "Annabelle" and "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day."
If there is one song on her album "Heartstrings" that would be good for karaoke, Leighton Meester said it would be "Good For One Thing."
When it comes to go-to karaoke songs, it appears that she does Mariah Carey a lot, as well as Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette and Loretta Lynn as she revealed in another interview with A.V. Club, where she also talked about what she wanted to be on her sandwich.
She enumerated jalapeños, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, honey mustard, corned beef, and tomatoes.
For "The Judge" actress, she puts jalapeños on a sub sandwich whenever she gets one, and if she has a chip option, she will get the jalapeño chips and have both, if she can handle the heat.
During the same interview, she also revealed that her first big grown-up purchase was her house, which she bought when she was around 24, which she considers "pretty young to be doing a grown-up thing like that."
"It was a lot to take on. But I love it and I feel like a grown-up because of it. It's a lot of responsibility," Leighton Meester said.
