Gogo Penguin and Everything Everything Popularity in Manchester
Fresh from playing on the "Later of BBC2" with the nominated GoGo Penguin, Jools Holland Manchester's Mercury Prize, joined "Everything Everything" in the Northern Quarter of the city. They officially released "Songs for Manchester," which is a new initiative from the PRS for Music. This is the organization that represents over a hundred thousand composers and songwriters.
Signed to Gondwana Records, Manchester indie label, the second album of GoGo Penguin has been qualified for the 2014 Barclayard Mercury Prize's Album of the Year while Everything Everything, a multi award and nominated indie rockers, are now writing their 3rd studio album in Manchester.
Coinciding with the PRS for 100 year anniversary programme of Music, the "Songs for Manchester" celebrates the important link between its members as well as the high street. Over fifteen thousand retailers as well as businesses across Manchester have a PRS for Music license that ensure composers, publishers, and songwriters are paid whenever their music is reproduced, performed or played.
Five emerging singer and songwriters in Manchester, which are Lam Blake, Tom Metcalfe, Matt Fryers, Baxter Rhodes, and Seamus McKenna, are taking to the streets of the city until this late November to show the unique relationship between local business and music. They will also perform bespoke songs for the businesses that are backing the campaign as a gift for their support.
According to the bassist of Everything Everything, Jeremy Pritchard, music is considered as a way of life in Manchester for both musicians that create it and countless individuals who support and relish it. This initiative shows the value that music holds for everyone as well as how essential PRS for music is to the songwriters. This is why they are able to make money for a living.
The inspiration of GoGo Penguin comes from the Manchester's urban streets. They love the city and its culture, music, people, and everything in it. It is great that the PRS for the Songs for Manchester is celebrating this exceptional place as well as the link in between the local businesses and music royalties.
