Gracepoint: The Controversial British hit has landed in U.S
The British series "Broadchurch" has come to the scene, not as what you think but with its own American adaptation "Gracepoint." The controversial British hit has landed US and now it's airing on Fox as an American crime drama television series.
Earlier in the '70s, adaptation of British series to Americans was more successful. There was "Steptoe and Son" changed into "Sanford And Son," "Till Death Us Do Part" turned into "All In The Family" and "Man About The House" became "Three's Company." And the newest to jump into the wagon is "Gracepoint."
Reports claim that the remake has no big difference from its British original version. "Gracepoint" gathers the same director, the same writer, and the same cast as "Broadchurch."
James Strong remains as the director, while Dan Futterman and Anya Epstein will be writing for the remaining episodes substituting Chris Chibnall. The remake has retained the male lead, David Tennant.
The remake has gained a lot of objections from TV critics asking why the need for an American version when there's no new thing to watch for.
The premiere episode of the remake is set in California where two cops are investigating the death of a young boy. The scenes have been regarded as shot-for-shot take in the first episode of the British original.
"I think there's a sense, with the whole show, that if it's not broke, you're not really out to fix it. There's a huge populist audience who haven't seen it yet, and they are, I think, who we're principally aiming at," Tennant claimed during a phone interview.
Fox executives admitted that the two shows have different endings. They also explained that there is a change in format which can be based on how American television manages commercial breaks for instance. The American remake has 10 episodes for 42 minutes each while the British series has eight episodes running for 42 minutes each.
Sources also revealed that "Gracepoint" marks the heavy performances of great actors and actresses including from Virginia Kull, Michael Pena, and Nick Nolte.
Gracepoint debuts on Fox channel starting on Oct. 2.
