'Law & Order: SVU' Season 16 Takes Inspiration from Real Life Events : Solange and Jay-z Elevetor Fight and Ray Rice Scandal PLUS 'Chicago Fire' and 'Chicago PD' Crossover Rumors
"Law & Order: SVU" has always been known to air provocative episodes and storyline. The show is not afraid to deal with timely and controversial issues.
"Law & Order: SVU" second episode titled "American Disgrace" is an example of that "timely and controversial" issue as Olivia and the rest of the team will deal with a famous basketball star - Shakir "The Shark" Wilkins, whose being accused of rape by an employee. It gets more interesting when the show "borrowed" some storyline with this years' famous celebrity scandal. It picked up few points from the elevator assault of Ray Rice and the elevator fight between Jay-Z and Solange.
Warren Leight, "Law & Order: SVU" showrunner said, "I'm trying to keep the show 10 minutes ahead of the news." Leight told Huffington Post that he "wanted to keep the series in tune with the manner in which news leaks now, which is coming more and more from security camera footage released by TMZ," but on the show they called it LMZ.
This is not the first time that "Law & Order: SVU" used a real-life Hollywood scandal. They aired an episode inspired by the famous Rihanna and Chris Brown's domestic violence scandal in 2009.
There is also a rumor that says there's going to be a crossover between "Law & Order: SVU," "Chicago PD" and "Chicago Fire." The crossover is going to happen in November 11. The crossover will start with "Chicago Fire" then it will continue to "Law & Order: SVU" on November 12 and everything will end on "Chicago PD." The plot revolves around child pornography ring that "stretches from Chicago to New York."
Dick Wolf said, "Warren Leight, SVU showrunner and Matt Olmstead Chicago Fire/Chicago PD showrunner are two of the best writers in the business. We wanted to figure out a way to create a crime that connects all three shows. Warren, Matt and I came up with a story that was big and unique enough to transit to all three."
"Law & Order: SVU" will air its second episode on Wednesday.
