iPhone 6 Latest News: Fingerprint-recognition system can be hacked
One of the most anticipated releases of this year smartphone market was Apple's iPhone 6. This smartphone has even broken the previous selling record of iPhone 5s. It has been reported that the company sold over 10 million of the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus over the first weekend. Though the sold phones might feature fingerprints security system, which has got lot of popularity still the smartphones are not safe from hacking.
Though the security system of iPhone 6 was uplifted with new auto encryption still there has been some complains about the hacking of fingerprint unlock system. Fake fingerprint can be used to break the fingerprint lock and success regarding the hacking has already taken place. According to Chief security officer Marc Rogers of Lookout Technology Apple's new iPhone 6 is hack able by fake fingerprints. According to his recent research result the fingerprint security lock system brought by Apple could have 0.74 more developed. So this news might break the heart of the iPhone freaks.
With new iOS 8 update the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s are also in danger of getting hacked by fake fingerprint. According to Rogers research if anyone uses pretty similar things like Elmer's glue the proper way and can lift the fingerprint of iPhone user from any object then the fingerprint will be used to hack the iPhone. Rogers not only described the system but also proved the fault of the security system. So it is high time for Apple to improve the TouchID sensor to make sure it cannot be hacked.
Roger also suggested that Apple could have used the timeout function. Once this function is enabled the user might need to provide the hidden pass-code within a certain time limit along with the fingerprint. This could have toughened the security system more as it is now. Rogers also mentioned that the measure of thickness, proper position to match the fingerprint needs some objects which are pretty easy to get in a research lab but might be a bit difficult task for a criminal but still very much hack able.
