Two android platform giants - Samsung and Sony, are set to unveil their next generation devices very soon (late September) and this is what you can expect to get from their latest offers. First to note is the metallic build that Samsung has given to the Galaxy Alpha. Having used plastic on the previous latest offerings, Samsung followers can now experience the strong feel and beveled edges that were once unique to the Apple 4-series devices. The Sony Xperia Z3, which will come with a more portable 'compact' alternative, has stuck to the aluminum finish and glass display that has become the norm with other high end devices of its brand. Both devices are attractively thin, with the thinner being the Galaxy Alpha (0.26in) at a lighter 115grams, compared to the Z3 (0.29in) at 152grams.

Sony Z3 models will be equipped with the dust and water resistant exterior that is synonymous with the Z-line, something unheard of from the Samsung offer. To make up for that, the Alpha flaunts a highly sophisticated finger print scanner security system for unlocking and other access restriction-dependent functions.

The display parameters of these gadgets are all impressive; the Alpha packs some 720 x 1280 pixels and 312-pi density, while the Z3 glistens with 1080 x 1920 pixels and a richer 424 pi density, making it the better for visual display. Compound that with the size advantage it maintains, the non-compact Sony Z3 comes at 5.3in while the Galaxy Alpha has a smaller 4.7in Super AMOLED.

Both the Galaxy Alpha and the Sony Z3 will run on the Android OS 4.4.4 - KitKat. The Sony offering will have a hefty 3GB RAM in addition to its quad-core processor (2.5GHz of speed and responsiveness) and 16GB and 32GB storage capacities with extension capabilities, while the Alpha will run on 1.8GHz and 1.3GHz of processors and a lower 2GB RAM and internal storage memory of 32GB without option of addition using expansion.

The battery life of the Sony Xperia has been speculated to be the superior of the two while cameras of the Z3 are at 20.1 MP for the rear and 2.2 MP front facing while a mere 12MP rear and 2.1 MP front camera will come standard with the Alpha.

The prices for the models are considerably lower compared to Apple: GBP 600 for the Z3 and GBP 500 for the Samsung Alpha.
