Android L Release Date, Preview : '5.0 Lemon Meringue' could be launched in October
The latest version of the Android OS is shrouded in mystery, just like their Apple counterparts. The latest version has been known by many different names such as Android 5.0, Android L, Android Lollipop, Lemon Meringue Pie and Android Licorice. However, latest news reports suggest that the actual name is 'Lemon Meringue Pie', as it was used at the I/O Developers Conference 2014.
Though the exact launch date is still not clear, but tech pundits say that it could be launched as early as October and as late as December. There were rumors that it would be released along with some new Nexus devices, but right now their development reports are unclear.
The design pattern and the implemented features will be drastically different from the previous versions. The user interface has also been spiced up dramatically and is rumored to be based on the lines of the 'Material Design', which showcase 3D views and shadows, thus making the entities more pronounced from each other.
The existing features such as transition animations, fonts and the touch feedback have all been greatly enhanced in the new version of the Android OS. There are also reports that the latest version would have close to 5000 new Application Programming Interfaces, which would help to greatly enhance the ultimate user experience. What's more is that it would also be in sync with the Android smart watch and you can interact with it, with the help of voice-based commands.
One of the main features of the new OS would be better battery life, much to the delight of the Nexus owners. There are also reports that the latest version of the Android OS would come packed with a 'Kill-Switch', which would have the supreme capability of destroying the data of a lost or stolen device.
