'Big Bang Theory' Season 8 Release Date, Spoilers, Cast Star Jim Parsons Shares on 2014 Emmy Nominations
"Big Bang Theory" Season 8 is just under a month away from its premiere (September 22, 2014) and cast star Jim Parsons is enjoying his great new contract and his two Emmy nominations. Jim Parsons was nominated for his role as Sheldon Cooper and the second for his role as Tommy Boatwright in the HBO movie The Normal Heart.
Parsons shared with EW about their public salary negotiations for "Big Bang Theory" going from $350,000 per episode to $1 million when all was said and done.
"I always thought everything would be worked out by the start date [July 30]," he shared. "When it wasn't, it certainly wasn't a good feeling, but there was absolutely no getting around the fact that everything had to be dealt with and finished before we could get back." The reports he saw were overblown. "You see the word 'strike'-'They're walking out!'-but there was nothing to walk out from," he says with a laugh. "That's always hard, because part of you wants to explain to people what's really going on. 'Don't worry, we're not leaving, we want to do the show.'"
"I came from a family in Texas who simply never spoke about money," he says. "When suddenly everybody is guessing, or some even getting close, to the ballpark of what you're earning-well, that's interesting, that everyone knows what you make. It is what it is, and the job is so wonderful that those minor oddities are well worth the ride."
On his Emmy nominations, Parsons shared his different feelings on the two role. "To be nominated again for Big Bang, is at least as touching to me, if not more so now, than it was the first time," he says. "Look, I'm only human and therefore there's a part of me that's waiting for people to say, 'Enough of you!'"
For his nomination with Normal Heart, "I would be lying if I said it didn't feel really good to know that people had seen and thought it was also good work, because again, it is such a different ball of wax from the life of Sheldon."
"The Big Bang Theory" stars Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki have finally agreed to new contracts after weeks of negotiating with CBS. According to Deadline, the three actors will make $1 million per episode for the next 72 episodes (Seasons 8-10) and potential for an eleventh season. The deals also "include larger ownership pieces, signing bonuses, production deals and advances towards the back-end."
"The Big Bang Theory" Season 8 news is heating up a few months away from the Fall premiere. The show co-creator and executive producer Chuck Lorreat spoke at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour and shared some interesting spoilers and plot news for Season 8.
"Penny (Kaley Cuoco) has an interesting arc this year where she puts acting down," Lorreat said. "She gets a shot to be a pharmaceutical rep at Bernadette's [Melissa Rauch] company."
With the new job and independence, there could be some friction with her husband-to-be, Leonard (Johnny Galecki). "She's going to start making some money, which will unbalance their relationship as the power shifts," shared Lorre of the Season 8 storyline. "She's going to find some confidence and self-esteem, which acting does not provide in great heaping doses."
"These characters, as they grow, they deal with more things. Sheldon [Jim Parsons] has grown unbelievably over seven years from where we began. We could never have imagined the stories we've been doing in the past year or so six years ago," he said.
The hit CBS show was renewed for an eighth season on February 2014 and also announced that the first portion of the new season would air on a different night due to Thursday Night NFL Football. Then in March, CBS added three more years past Season 8, confirming the show will make new episodes through 2016-17. "The Big Bang Theory" will start airing on Mondays on CBS, premiering Season 8 on September 22, 2014 before "Mom" due to the NFL game schedule. The show will then move back to Thursdays on October 30, 2014 and air before "The Millers" for the remainder of the season.
A huge cast out of the surprise bag for "The Big Bang Theory" was that "Friends" star Lisa Kudrow will reportedly be making cameos this season as Penny's mom. Penny's mother has been come up several times in the show, but she has never been seen. With Penny getting married, it would be a good time to reveal Penny's mom, which is expected to be Kudrow. Fans seem excited about a Kudrow appearance and think she will fit in good with the corky chemistry of the show.
Cast star, Cuoco-Sweeting shares her excitement about Kudrow joining the crew for Season 8 sharing, "I don't know what they're going to do, but I have always thought - and I hope this doesn't offend her (Lisa Kudrow) because I know she's super young, though we know Penny's mom got knocked up very early, - that Lisa Kudrow would be so perfect. I've said that for years. I think it would be hilarious, plus I'm a huge fan of hers, so it's a selfish wish."
The big wedding with Penny and Leonard is another exciting storyline that fans are excited to see play out in season 8. Cuoco-Sweeting talked to TVLine shared her excitement for Penny's marriage to Leonard in the upcoming season saying, "If I could write it myself, I think Leonard will be more of the bride, because I think it would be funny if he were the planner. Penny is so aloof, she'd be a lot more easy-going than Leonard."
