Erica Lane Lays Her "Burden" Down in this Exclusive Interview

Erica Lane is a prolific vocalist and songwriter from Nashville, captivating audiences around the world with her blend of inspirational lyrics and sweeping ballads, energetic performances, and a touch of elegance. A former Miss Houston and Top 10 US Miss World, Lane has toured the United States and abroad and has performed at events with notables such as Jon Voight, George Lopez and Chonda Pierce.

Lanes music has been featured in nearly a dozen film and television soundtracks, starring actors such as Ving Rhames (Mission Impossible), Muse Watson (NCIS), Eric Close (Without A Trace) and Brian Litrell of the Backstreet Boys. Lane has made numerous television/radio appearances including Music City Late Night with Ronnie McDowell, Downtown Radio in Belfast, Ireland, Sunny 99 in Orlando, Miracle Channel in Calgary, KSBJ in Houston and many other TV and radio shows across the US, Canada, and the UK. 

Lane has just released her brand new EP "Take Your Burden Down."  We are so honored to be able to catch up with her for this exclusive interview.

Hallels:  Thank you so much Erica for your time.  How did you first discover your calling as a singer?     

I grew up with a natural love for singing, and I occasionally sang solos in church as a kid. The summer of my 7th grade year, I was at church camp, and the music leader let me do a solo during their evening event for 400 kids. I remember getting a standing ovation and feeling in that moment that God was revealing His calling on my life. From that point on, I decided to do whatever it took to become excellent in the musical gifts I had in order to change lives one day.

Hallels:  You have also recorded a song called  "For Those Who Love Him."  And it was the official theme song for Gospel For Asia's theatrical release of the movie, "Veil Of Tears," narrated by Natalie Grant.  How did you become involved in this project?   

I have been involved with Gospel For Asia as an artist ambassador. They learned about my song "For Those Who Love Him" and thought it really resonated with the message of the film. I'm honored to be a part of a movie project that is making such a difference in South Asia and around the world.

Hallels:  Let's talk about your new EP "Take Your Burden Down."  Can you tell our readers what your new single "Burden" is about? 

The song "Burden" was a response to seeing my friend suffer as her young son battled sarcoma and other serious medical issues that ultimately led to his passing this year. My heart was hurting for the family during the whole traumatic process, and I realized that people should not have to bear things like that without the help and support of real friends. So, "Burden" was birthed out of that experience, and the lyrics are actually more positive and uplifting than you might expect.

Hallels:  You have covered quite a number of musical grounds on this record including a cover of Dolly Parton's "Jolene."  Why did you choose to record "Jolene"?     

I love the song, Jolene, and I wanted to my own arrangement of a fun cover. So, my sister and I decided to record it together in a blend of Celtic, folk, and country styles. I'm happy with the outcome.

Hallels:  With the release of this EP, are there any plans to follow it up with a full length album?    

I think it is likely that I will release another full-length album in the next year or two, but it would involve all new music.
