Ant-Man Movie Release Date, News, Rumors, and Updates: Director Peyton Reed Announces Start of Production 

Today director Peyton Reed, through his Twitter account, announced that the production of Marvel's Ant-Man has officially begun.

The road to an Ant-Man film has been a particularly rocky one for Marvel ever since the idea of a film came to them a couple of years ago. Even then, an Ant-Man film was already in development when its movie rights still belonged to Artisan Entertainment. Comedy writer and director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) was attached to pen and direct the film back in 2003. Then when the film rights reverted back to Marvel in 2006, Wright remained as writer and director. In 2008 the first draft of the script was finished, then in 2011 the second draft was submitted to Marvel.

In June 2012, Wright spent less than week to shoot a test reel and eventually previewed the footage to the audience of the Marvel panel in Comic-Con late that year. It was officially announced in January 2013 by executive producer Kevin Feigi that Ant-Man would be a part of the Third Phase of Marvel's cinematic universe and will begin production in 2014. Much to the dismay of fans, on May 23, 2014 Marvel and Wright announced that Wright is leaving the project due to creative differences. The studio then was eyeing on a new director and has approached the likes of Adam Mckay(Anchorman), Ruben Thurber (We're the Millers), Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies) and David Wain (Wanderlust). Peyton Reed, director of Bring It On, The Break Up, and Yes Man, was ultimately chosen to direct the film.

The film's cast will include Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Michael Douglas as Dr. Hank Pym, Envangeline lily as Hope Van Dyne and Corey Stoll as Darren Cross/Yellowjacket.

New actors have recently been cast in unspecified roles; Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Judy Greer, Wood Harris, Gregg Turkington, and rapper T.I.. It's also been revealed that actor John Slattery will be returning to his Iron Man 2 role as Tony Stark's father, Howard Stark.

With the film's production underway, more news and tidbits about the film should be expected to pop out in the coming months before its release.

Ant-Man is scheduled to be release on July 17, 2015.
