Batman v Superman Release Date, Latest News: Batfleck Hurt, Recovers Fast in Shooting
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the sequel to last year's "Man of Steel" major blockbuster, will be released worldwide on May 6, 2016.
The new Batman v Superman movie is now being filmed under the direction of Zack Snyder from a screenplay by Chris Terrio based on a story co-written by Snyder with David Goyer. During the shooting, according to a report gathered by JoBlo, Ben Affleck, who plays Batman, sustained a minor injury and had to be sent home. The 42-year old actor however was back on the set after just a few days, allowing production to remain on schedule. Barring any other unforeseen incidents, filming can be expected to wrap up by November.
Fans who were at the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer screening at the San Diego Comic-Con were impressed by Affleck's performance as a version of Batman who's "tired and weary and seasoned and been doing it for awhile." Despite earlier misgivings as to his appropriateness for the role, those who saw the Batman v Superman movie trailer were convinced that Affleck's take on the Dark Knight character is realistically convincing.
To Affleck's Batman, Henry Cavill will be reprise his role as Clark Kent/Superman. Others confirmed to in the cast include Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth and Jesse Eisenberg as arch-criminal Lex Luthor. Holly Hunter will portray a US Senator while Tao Okamoto will be Lex Luther's assistant Mercy Graves in the film. Israeli actress Gal Gadot who made her film debut in Fast & Furious 4 stars as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman.
Aside from Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, there will be other superheros from the DC comic book universe, all founding members of the Justice League, who will be making their first live-action appearance in the movie. Theater actor Ray Fisher will play Victor Stone/Cyborg while Jason Momoa, according to unconfirmed sources, has been cast as Arthur Curry/Aquaman.
The movie's plot is still not known but the 'Batman v Superman' in title suggests that the Dark Knight's brand of justice-at-any-cost pragmatism could stand in the way of the Man of Steel's resolve to play-by-the-rules no-matter-what idealism. And the 'Dawn of Justice' in the title also suggests that it could be an origin story for the Justice League of America.
