Alice in Wonderland 2 Release Date, Spoilers and Reveals: Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska and Anne Hathaway to Reprise Roles, as Plot Concentrates More on Mad Hatter as Protagonist in Sequel
Alice in wonderland release date has been slated for May 27 2016, hoping that it will have just as much success as the prequel. Alice in wonderland is based on a book by Lewis Carroll, through the Looking glass, and the adaptation which premiered in 2010 grossed over 1 billion dollars in the box office. This time, the film is going to be directed by James Bobin and will take the plot back to Underland and back in time. According to recent, reports the production of the film has already begun.
As for the cast, Johnny Depp is going to reprise his role as the Mad Hatter, Mia Wasikowska is back as Alice, Helena Bonham Carter is the Red Queen and Anne Hathaway will be the White Queen. Ed Speleers, Matt Lucas, and Sacha Baron Cohen will also star in the sequel with some voice credits from Michael Sheen and Stephen Fry. According to a Disney press release, Burton will stay on as executive producer. So you can count on the presence of the white rabbit, Cheshire cat, and the blue caterpillar, as in the previous movie.
Through the Looking glass as a sequel will not be considered as a prequel because of the time travelling theory, as Alice will be featured as a grown person as the last time she visited Underland, she was only a child. This time she will be on her quest to help the mad hatter, played by the talented Johnny Depp. Perhaps this plot will focus more on the past f the Mad Hatter more than anything else. As stated before, Sacha Baron Cohen will be on the cast, and she will play a villain known as 'Time', which adds to the assumption that the sequel will focus on something about a time distortion that Alice and the Cheshire cat have to fix. This movie is going to deviate from the story line of the original movie no doubt by exploring what would be "different parts of Underworld". Of course, though, the role of Wasikowska 's Alice will be sidelined but Johnny Depp jumping into the Protagonist category seems okay seeing as his role in Pirates of the Caribbean has brought in billions of dollars at the box office.
