Star Trek 3 Movie Release Date, Plot Details Revealed

Star Trek 3 release date is targeted for 2016 to make it in time for the 50th year anniversary of Gene Roddenberry's franchise original TV sci-fi classic according to Paramount Pictures. Karl Urban who will play "Dr. McCoy" and Simon Pegg who will play "Scotty" in Star Trek 3 were at the Las Vegas Star Trek Convention last week and they both indicated that everyone is on board regarding meeting the target release date for the Star Trek 3rd movie in the rebooted franchise.

 

Pegg also confirmed in Las Vegas that Robert Orci will be directing the film in light of rumors that a deal hasn't been closed yet. After all, it was Orci himself who just recently told Collider, "Well, I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch. The studio has yet to even read the script. I'm in the middle of writing it, with the talented team of [JohnD.] Payne and [Patrick] McKay. They are true Star Trek fans, as well. So, I can't even think anything about the future until I give them a script and they greenlight it. Until that happens, everything else is just a rumor."

Star Trek 3 release date questions notwithstanding, fans already have some inclination as to how the storyline will unfold. In a previous talk with Variety, Orci said, "In this movie, they are closer than they are to the original series characters that you have ever seen. They have set off on their five-year mission. So their adventure is going to be in deep space."

In the Gene Roddenberry original TV series, trekkies know that the five-year mission of the U.S.S. Enterprise, as voiced over in the opening sequence by William Shatner's Capt. Kirk, is: "to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before."

Aside from Urban and Pegg, the other lead actors in the cast are Chris Pine (Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock), Zoe Saldana (Uhura), John Cho (Sulu) and Anton Yelchin (Chekov).
