Shane Stevens Releases Bold New Song "Don't Hijack My Jesus"
Award-winning singer/songwriter Shane Stevens, known for his hits across both country and pop music, has released his first single as a singer in over 10 years. "Don't Hijack My Jesus," is available now on all digital platforms. The esteemed and lauded singer/songwriter wrote the track to deliver a powerful message of love, unity, and a return to the true teachings of Jesus, standing as a response to those who misuse His name to sow division. The song is from a forthcoming project, slated for release in 2025.
"I wrote 'Don't Hijack My Jesus' because I believe in Jesus' teachings. He practiced and taught us how to love one another and show grace and mercy to one another, and He healed and still does heal us through compassion. I want people to be reminded of that," says Stevens.
"Jesus didn't teach us to destroy our neighbor but to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. If you love, you get more love; if you hate, you get more hate. Too many people today are using His name to separate us instead of bringing us together. His name, Yeshua, in Hebrew, literally means to deliver or rescue. Not to divide and conquer. I hope this song makes people think and helps them to remember who He is. Pure, positive love that is for everyone. Not just some."
Shane Stevens has long been a respected name in the music industry, crafting hits for major artists across genres. With a catalog that includes chart-toppers for Carrie Underwood, Lady A, Selena Gomez, Walker Hayes, Meghan Trainor, Ariana Grande, Jo Dee Messina, Little Big Town, Kelly Rowland, and many more, Stevens' career is marked by both versatility and success.
In 2021, Stevens received his first Grammy nomination for co-writing Walker Hayes' viral hit "Fancy Like," which was a No. 1 smash and certified 6X Platinum by the RIAA. The song also earned him a BMI Award and an NSAI Award for one of the "Songs I Wish I'd Written," along with an Academy of Country Music Award nomination for Song of the Year. His first No. 1 hit came with "American Honey," performed by Lady A, which also garnered him the NSAI Award, as well as BMI's "Million-Aire" and "Most-Performed Country Songs of the Year" honors.
His career took a pivotal turn in New York City after a chance encounter with actress Mary Louise Parker, who encouraged him to pursue his true calling in songwriting. This led to a new publishing deal with Bob Doyle and the end of Stevens' professional hairdressing career. From there, his career took off, with notable success including "Low" by Sara Evans (co-written with Morgan Stapleton) and "American Honey" by Lady A.
Stevens' versatility has allowed him to expand his creative horizons, working with pop and R&B artists like Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Fifth Harmony, and Meghan Trainor. He also contributed songs to the 2017 "My Little Pony" movie and co-wrote a country musical for Paramount Pictures in 2019.
Today, Stevens is embarking on a new chapter of his career as an artist. His debut album, slated for release in 2025, is filled with songs drawn from his personal experiences. As Stevens says, "Bob Doyle told me, 'Don't write about things you've never experienced; write about what you know.' That stuck with me: always tell the truth. So, that's what I do."
