Vanessa Bell Armstrong Reflects on Her 14th New Album & Four Decades of Ministry
Vanessa Bell Armstrong is a Gospel legend who for four decades has scored gospel hits, won Stellar Awards and earned multiple Grammy nominations. The dynamic artist has also garnered crossover success and appeared on Broadway. A vocal powerhouse, Vanessa Bell Armstrong has managed to bridge the gap between "old school" Gospel and contemporary music. Shanachie Entertainment is pleased to release, "Today," the first single from her forthcoming album Today, scheduled for release on June 21, 2024.
Q: Vanessa, thank you for doing this interview with us. Over the decades, you have gifted the church with so many classic songs. Do you have a favorite moment in your career for which you are particularly grateful?
The year I recorded my live album at Pastor Marvin Winans church. My Mom, Dad and my late son Terence were all there.
Q: How do you keep your work fresh after all these years of singing and recording?
I ask God to give me a Fresh Anointing to sing and reach people. It's all about Him.
Q: "Today" is your first album in over a decade. What were you busy doing during the gap between recordings and why is the timing right for the release of your new album ?
I've been traveling all over the country singing. Last year I was booked almost every weekend.
Q: When your fans hear the new music what do you hope your message will be to them?
There are a lot of things going on Today. People have been through a lot but Today is still a good day and God has great things in store for you. He is still in control.
Q: What type of songs were you looking for when you set out to make this record?
Originally I was not planning on doing another album but God said He had more for me to do and it looks like He saved the best for last. I was waiting to hear from the Lord as far as which songs should be on the album. Many were turned down but Walter Millsap and Shanachie Entertainment
put together agreat album.
Q: Tell us more about your new single and title cut "Today."
We wanted a song to reach the young people some of whom are not familiar with my music. So the goal was to bridge the gap.
Q: How do you hope these new songs will help your listeners in their walk with the Lord?
I want these songs to inspire them in their walk with the Lord each and every day.
Q: Do you have any special projects or albums that you have not done but would love to do in the near future?
I would like to do an album with my two sisters and one with my grandchildren, I have 14 and they can sing. My youngest grandchild, Baby Hannah is only 2 years old. We haven't heard her yet but she loves music and worships the Lord.
