The Erwins Pray their New Album will Fan the Flames of a Spiritual Awakening
GRAMMY®-nominated, Dove Award-winning StowTown recording artist The Erwins return March 8 with Life Story, the sibling group's first full-length release in nearly three years. Produced by Wayne Haun (Celine Dion, Stephen Schwartz, Jason Crabb), the album is a celebration of abundant life, featuring nine tracks brimming with joy and rooted in Hope.
With anticipatory verses giving way to the soaring, inspirational chorus, the project's latest single, "Back To The Garden," invites listeners into undivided fellowship with the Lord. Written by Charity Gayle, Ryan Kennedy and Geron Davis, "Back To The Garden" is now available on streaming platforms.
Q: Thank you for doing this interview with us. Congratulations on the upcoming release of your new album, which is your first in three years. What are some important events that have transpired in the last three years?
Katie: This is the longest we've ever gone without new material, and the hardest part has been sitting on these INCREDIBLE lyrics-after the songwriters gave them to us-waiting to let listeners hear them! God has been faithful; God has kept us safe; He's kept us healthy; and we praise HIS name for allowing us to see Him move all over the country.
Q: Logan has also recently joined the group. What do you appreciate most about his contribution?
Keith: Logan is Katie's husband, and he fits us like a glove but he's a busy fella! When he's not on the road with us, he works as a nurse in an ICU unit, which is obviously a very important occupation. On the road he does some guitar playing and sound system running-pretty much anything and everything we need him to do. We thank God for Logan.
Q: When making "Life Story," was there a vision behind what you wanted the album to sound like?
Kristopher: We have long felt that one of the pillars of our ministry is to bridge gaps between generations. We want to sing songs with a fresh, newer sound, but also bring back the songs we grew up singing. For us to always find that balance is very important.
Q: Why did you name the album "Life Story"?
Kody: Our father started this ministry in 1973, as a 20-year-old, single evangelist. Dennis Erwin is now 70 and still preaching like he's 20! This is all we've ever done and all that we know. The road is our "Life Story"; the Gospel is our "Life Story"; OUR GOD is our "Life Story." It seemed like a pretty fitting title.
Q: What type of songs were you looking for to record?
Kristopher: Very early in the process of "song searching," we realized that this record-this catalog of songs-is going to be for the Church, the Bride of Christ. With every project, we obviously pray that God would use our music to draw the lost to a saving knowledge of our Lord, and this record is no different. But that said, we knew God was pointing us in the direction of the local Church. We pray that God uses every word of these songs to encourage, strengthen and revive the Church.
Q: How do you think the songs on your new album will encourage your listeners in their walk with the Lord?
Kristopher: We firmly believe that God is not finished working in America, and that a spirit of revival can and is still-in many areas-sweeping across the nation. We pray that this record is used by the Holy Spirit to fan the flames of a spiritual awakening. In John 12:32, Jesus said, "If I be lifted up, I will draw all men unto me." That is our prayer. Grant it, Lord.
