Brady "Phanatik" Goodwin of Cross Movement Denies Christian Faith
Brady "Phanatik" Goodwin, also known as the Ambassador, is the co-founding member of Christian hip hop group Cross Movement (CM). Recently, he posted a 24-minute video on Facebook admitting that he has walked away from the Christian faith. After a period of deconstruction, Goodwin has decided that he has stopped believing in God and His Son Jesus.
The CM has chosen to define itself as the Christian or holy division of hip hop culture as opposed to the hip hop or rap division of Christian culture. Their niche has been to translate biblical and Christian theology into rap music by using the same hyper-aggressive lyrics, sampled orchestral riffs, alliteration, and virtuoso delivery of many mainstream rappers without the self-aggrandizing and violent lyrics, or the materialistic imagery stereotypically associated with many rappers.
Together, they have released released 7 albums between 1997 to 2007. Their 2007 album HIStory: Our Place In His Story album received a Stellar Award nomination for "CD of the Year" and "Rap/Hip-Hop/Gospel CD of the Year".
Goodwin is a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary. Besides being part of CM, he also served as the president of the non-profit organization Cross Movement Ministries and ministered the gospel through rap and preaching for nearly 15 years. With a passionate commitment to the kingdom of Christ as well as a firm belief that faith must integrate with culture, The Ambassador had become known for his devotion to proclaiming Jesus Christ to urban contexts, and through urban mediums.
