Kerry Douglas Drops "Gospel Mix XI" Album
Kerry Douglas - ASCAP Award winner, Stellar Hall of Fame Inductee and one of the Top Gospel Promoters in the country with 5 number 1s in this calendar year - is releasing his first Gospel Mix album in two years. The 18-track project, "Gospel Mix XI" (Blacksmoke/ eOne), will hit stores and digital platforms everywhere on November 20th. Among the highlights are a reunion of Ted & Sheri on "God Will Heal It" and a searing collaboration of Fred Hammond, Zacardi Cortez and bassist Marcus Miller on the up-tempo, urban worship anthem, "Praise You."
The uplifting collection features some of the biggest names in gospel music, as well as some of the brightest new voices on the scene. It boasts No. 1 hits such as crooner Earnest Pugh's "God Wants to Heal You," worship team Demetrius West & Jesus Promoters' "I'm Next," Zacardi Cortez' "You Don't Know" and Birmingham's Pastor Mike who made a huge splash over the last year with his debut "Big" which spent ten weeks at No. 1 on Billboard's Gospel Airplay chart.
"In putting the Gospel Mix together, we knew we had to deliver the goods and we wanted something that would reach everybody," says Douglas. There is something for everyone. Shawn McLemore, known for leading James Fortune & FIYA's "I Believe," delivers a robust foot stomper on "Sunday Morning" while "Born Blessed" singer Jimmy Hicks and his sister, Diane, deliver contemporary quartet with "Keep Running." Douglas shines the spotlight on several new acts such as North Carolina Pastor Edwrin Sutton who offers encouragement on his Top 40 debut, "I Hear Rain." BET's Sunday Best Season 7 winner, Geoffrey Golden, is featured on Lasha Knox's "God of Miracles." Algeron Wright makes a stunning debut with his new song, "Created 2 Win." Douglas is quite excited about Atlanta's Angela Wilson who is joined by Mali Music on her Trap-styled remix of her song, "Winner."
Over the last three decades, Douglas and his Blacksmoke recording label have become the most successful independent promoters of gospel music in the USA. He has transformed unknown artists such as Earnest Pugh, Zacardi Cortez and James Fortune into household names in the church community. Outside of his own rich roster of artists, Douglas has also successfully promoted gospel legends such as BeBe Winans, and Karen Clark-Sheard. Aside from topping Billboard's Top Independent Gospel label charts for multiple years, he was cited by Radio One as the Top Gospel Promoter of 2019. He's also won numerous awards from ASCAP and BMI for radio airplay achievements for his various acts. Thus, it's no surprise that he was inducted into the Stellar Gospel Music Awards Hall of Fame in 2020.
With the universal social unrest as a result of the coronavirus pandemic - Douglas was diagnosed with the illness in October and recovered - circulating the globe this year, Douglas feels this is the perfect time for a new Gospel Mix. "Gospel music is the Good News," he says. "It's supposed to make you feel good, and give you a lift when you are feeling down. This year has delivered so much for us to be down about, but we need to lift our hands and raise our voices and celebrate what God is doing."
