Official "Doctor Who" Trailer for Season 8 Released During Halftime of World Cup Final, and US Air Date Set for August 23
"Doctor Who" fans may be the only ones on the planet who are so devoted to avoiding spoilers. With season 8 of the BBC series premiering next month, that has certainly not been an easy task. Several crucial show spoilers have been leaked through various sources, such as scripts and unedited cut of the first episode, entitled "Deep Breath," somehow being circulated on the Internet.
However, fans were finally rewarded during the halftime of the World Cup final between Germany and Argentina on Sunday with the first official footage of season 8. BBC released the first full-length trailer for its popular series about the time-traveling doctor, and it revealed some interesting things about the newest season.
The trailer, which is only about a minute long, features Peter Capaldi, the twelfth Time Lord since "Doctor Who" has begun, telling his companion, Clara (Jenna Coleman), that they are headed "into darkness." We are then given a sneak peek at some of what we have to look forward to this season with the Doctor, among them Cybermen, the Daleks, and what appeared to be some sort of lizard, reminiscent of a dinosaur, wreaking havoc around London.
According to the leaks that have come out of the BBC Latin America headquarters in Miami, fans of the show have a lot to look forward to this season. Many elements from previous seasons will be brought back, and we will also learn some intriguing new details about Cara, the Doctor's companion.
Season 8 of "Doctor Who" will premiere in the U.S. on Saturday, August 23 at 8 p.m. Meanwhile, you can watch the teaser trailer here.
