'The Distortion of Sound' Documentary 2014 Starring Slash, Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda, Snoop Dogg & More, Watch Full Movie Here (VIDEO)
The new The Distortion of Sound documentary features interviews from musicians including Slash, Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda, Snoop Dog, Quincy Jones, Hans Zimmer and more. The film focuses on "the current state of sound and how technology has changed the way we listen to music. The film explores the gap between what we create in the studio and on the stage and how fans consume it on the go."
The short film, which you can watch above, is only 20 minutes long but gives detailed analysis on the decline of sound quality that has been a natural result of the industry's expansion and shift away from physical formats. It goes in pretty hard against the digital age ruining the music industry but it is interesting to hear these seasoned professionals speak and share their insight.
The film does a solid job also showing statistical and scientific data of how compression affects the listening experience. Slash shares, "When you make a record and you're in the studio and you have all the tracks and everything is right there in front of you and you can hear your every instrument and you know exactly what it's supposed to sound like and then for it to come out compressed, it's like why did you put all the work into it in the first place? Because you don't hear it that way."
The film had their premiere in Los Angeles at the Grammy Museum Thursday night (July 10) and had several musicians in attendance including Tom Morello, Courtney Love, Juliette Lewis, Adrian Grenier, Danny Masterson and Michelle Trachtenberg. The night was hosted by Mario Lopez and later led a post-screening Q&A with Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda and director Jacob Rosenberg.
