Game of Thrones Season 5 Will Air In April 2015 on HBO; Casting Call in Spain Draws over 10,000 Hopefuls
There was rejoicing heard 'round the world as reports began to surface in the last few days that filming for season 5 of "Game of Thrones" has begun. Although no official premiere date has been released by HBO as yet, fans believe that the show will be back on the air sometime in April 2015.
Part of season 5 will be set in the kingdom of Dorne, home of season four's much beloved newcomer Oberyn Martell. Spain is the setting chosen for Dorne, and the show launched a casting call for extras in the province of Sevilla. A statement from HBO reported, "HBO is pleased to confirm that a portion of season five of GAME OF THRONES will be shot on several natural locations in the Province of Sevilla. Specifics on the locations will be announced closer to the time of production."
The open casting call for extras was met with wild success, drawing more than 10,000 applicants in the first twenty-four hours after the announcement was posted.
Season five of "Game of Thrones" will be drawing from George R.R. Martin's books, "A Feast for Crows" and "A Dance With Dragons." These novels are part of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series that has been the inspiration for and main source that the incredibly popular television series has been based off of.
Although the show's creators and writers have stated that they work quite closely alongside Martin, they have not been afraid to deviate from the book's plotline for the sake of the show. Many rumors have already begun to surface about what fans can expect from season 5. Among them is speculation that Jon Snow may be forced to choose between taking his place as Lord of Winterfell and his commitment to the Night's Watch, and that Sansa Stark may have Lord Baelish's blood on her hands by the time the season ends. What truth is there to these rumors? We will have to wait until April to find out.
