“The Judge” Movie Spoilers - Robert Downey Jr Says It’s The Kind of Movie He Grew Up Wanting to Make
"The Judge," a comedy-drama directed by David Dobkin based on a screenplay written by Nick Schenk and Bill Dubuque is scheduled for US theater screening on October 10, 2014. It stars Robert Downey Jr as big city lawyer "Hank Palmer" who returns to his Indiana hometown for his mother's funeral and Robert Duvall as "Joseph Palmer," his father and the town's judge who is accused of her murder.
A joint production of Warner Bros, Village Roadshow Pictures, Team Downey and Big Kid Pictures, the film also stars Vera Farmiga, Vincent D'Onofrio, Dax Sheppard, Jeremy Strong and Billy Bob Thornton, along with Ken Howard, Emma Tremblay, Balthazar Getty, David Krumholtz, Sarah Lancaster, Grace Zabriskie, and Denis O'Hare.
Set in the fictional Indiana town of "Carlinville," Downey's character "Hank," on his return home, learns that his estranged father, "Judge Palmer," is suffering from Altzeimher's disease. He also finds out that the judge is a suspect in the murder investigation on the cause of his mother's death.
In a scene from the trailer, Downey's character is shown standing up for the accused judge. He said, "My father's a lot of unpleasant things. A murderer's not one of them." Viewers agree that "Hank" is slated to become one of Downey's more serious and more dramatic roles, a deviation from the superhero and other offbeat characters he usually gets to play.
Downey himself, when he tweeted the trailer to his almost two million followers on the social media site, said, "Here's a first look at #The Judge. This is the kind of movie I grew up wanting to make. Only took 49 years. Enjoy."
