Donald Trump is the First US President to Speak at the Annual March for Life
U.S. President Donald Trump spoke at the 47th March For Life rally on the National Mall, January 24, 2020, in Washington, D.C. The Right to Life Campaign held its annual March For Life rally and march to the U.S. Supreme Court protesting the high court's 1973 Roe v. Wade decision making abortion legal. Trump is the first US president to speak at this historic event in person.
"Every child is a precious and sacred gift from God," he said. "Together we must protect, cherish, and defend the dignity and the sanctity of every human life."
"When we see the image of a baby in the womb, we glimpse the majesty of God's creation. When we hold a newborn in our arms, we know the endless love that each child brings to a family."
Trump also touted his record of pro-life accomplishments while in office, declaring that "unborn children have never had a stronger defender in the White House."
Trump even alluded to Scripture in his speech. "As the Bible tells us, each person is wonderfully made," he continued, referencing Psalm 139:14, which reads: "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
Dr. James Dobson, President of the James Dobson Family Institute, thanked Trump for his address. "I applaud President Donald Trump for his willingness to do what no president in the last 47 years has done - attend the March for Life and strongly reaffirm his administration's commitment to protect the sanctity of life from conception to natural death. And I call on my fellow Americans to join together and demand an end to the horror of abortion. Every life matters. By our words and deeds, may we show this to be true."
Likewise, Penny Nance, president and CEO of Concerned Women for America, commented: "It was a profound privilege to literally stand with President Trump before hundreds of thousands at the March for Life rally in Washington. Like no president before him, President Trump has uniquely brought new energy to the pro-life movement and has delivered historic advances in the fight to protect life in America. There has never been a better champion for life in the White House."
