"The Winds of Winter" - Still No Definite Release Date
"The Winds of Winter," the much anticipated sixth installment in George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Fire and Ice" seven-book fantasy epic still has no definite release date. However, some expect the book may be ready by 2017, assuming of course that the 65-year-old author can continue with his current pace of 250 words per day.
Martin himself estimates that "The Winds of Winter" along with "A Dream of Spring," the tentative title of the final volume in his epic saga, will both be very big books of about 1,500 manuscript pages each. He has also dropped hints and teasers on what fans may expect from his work-in-progress. In an exclusive interview with Today in Travel, he said, "Obviously, I'm going to continue the story. There were a lot of cliffhangers at the end of "A Dance with Dragons." Those will be resolved very early. I'm going to open with the two big battles that I was building up to, the battle in the ice and the battle at Mereen - the battle of Slaver's Bay. And then take it from there."
In a later talk with Entertainment Weekly about his forthcoming book, Martin said, "We have more deaths, and we have more betrayals. We have more marriages." Incidentally, Tyrion will also along the way cross paths with Daenerys. He said, "Well, Tyrion and Dany will intersect, in a way, but for much of the book they're still apart. They both have large roles to play here. Tyrion has decided that he would actually like to live, for one thing, which he wasn't entirely sure of during the last book, and he's now working toward that end - if he can survive the battle that's breaking out all around him. And Dany has embraced her heritage as a Targaryen and embraced the Targaryen words. So they're both coming home."
Fans can check out for themselves previews and news about how "The Winds of Winter" is progressing at Martin's own "Not A Blog" site.
