'House of Cards' Netflix Season 3 Release Date, Spoilers, Cast News & Reveals (VIDEO)
Netflix hit series "House of Cards" released the second season in February (see trailer above) and also got the renewal for Season 3 back in February. Fans now are looking for any news that they can get in the meantime until the new season releases in early 2015.
Kevin Spacey tweeted earlier this week about going to Washington, D.C. to start filming. He hinted, "What a blast it was to do ... Now back to Washington for... well, you know."
Only a small amount of filming for the show is actually done in Washington D.C., as most of the shooting is done in Maryland. Season 3 of "House of Cards" will again film in Maryland. Initially, the filming of the third season of the Netflix series was haulted with troubles over the past few weeks as the producers weren't getting permission from the State of Maryland, but the issue was eventually resolved on April 25.
The length of the series hasn't been made clear yet. The show is expected to return to Netflix in February of 2015.
Show creator Beau Willimon spoke briefly with New York Times' David Carr at an event last week at the Natural History Museum in New York. Willimon hesitantly revealed the more philosophical turns the show might take in the next season, particularly dealing with Frank Underwood's (Kevin Spacey) jourey to the top. He hinted that Underwood might struggle to find purpose in his life as he reaches his goal of presidency. "What do you do when you're on top of it?" Willimon said. "Who are you? You can no longer say, 'I'm the guy trying to reach the summit. Now, it had to have meaning. It used to be that the meaning was getting there."
Willimon also shared about Robin Wright, who plays Claire Underwood on the Netflix series and also directed her first episode in Season 2. "She's a natural. She has been in the business for many years so she knows her way around a set. She has an intuitive understanding of the craft; she has exquisite taste; she has great insight into story," he said. "Her thoughts about scripts, whether it's her character or someone else's, always make the script better. She is a born leader."
Willimon said Wright directed one of his favorite episodes and that it dealt with a lot of complexity. "It was late in the season so it's when all the various storylines are really beginning to converge and the heat is ratcheted up and so is the pace. She did so much preparation," he said. "She is a first-time director and anything she didn't know the answer to she wasn't afraid to ask. But most importantly, she had a vision for what that episode would be."
He joked about Wright only wanting to direct now. "She's a really wonderful director and I can't wait to see her direct more," he said. "She threatens that all she wants to do now is direct instead of act. But I know that she can do both at the same time. That episode was a clear example."
The popular Netflix series about the corrupted side of government will pick up with Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) having masterfully maneuvered his way into the Vice Presidency, with many people not happy about it. Investigative reporter Zoe Barnes (Kate Mara) is inching closer to the truth about Frank and Peter Russo (Corey Stoll) and will stop at nothing to break the story. Frank's wife Claire (Robin Wright), the newly appointed Second Lady, must deal with the bright glare of the spotlight and how the intense scrutiny eats away at their once private existence.
"House of Cards" is Netflix's first original series and received some nice validation with it's recent Emmy nomination for "Outstanding Drama Series". This was the first time a program from only a digital platform received a high-profile Emmy nomination.
