The Story Behind Michelle Schorp's "Fight for Me"
"Fight for Me" is the new single from Nashville-based worship leader Michelle Schorp. This anointed anthem reminds us that God fights the battles FOR us, and we can rest in this promise.
Schorp has been a worship leader for more than 20 years. From a young age she knew music would be a part of her life, and while attending Belmont University in Nashville, TN, Michelle found her passion for leading worship and writing songs for the local church.
After two decades of ministry, Michelle felt God calling her into a season of rest. She stepped away from ministry roles for four years, and into a season of "refreshing." Michelle recalls that though it was challenging, the decision was an important act of obedience, and during her hiatus God poured into Michelle a fresh vision and energy for the season to come.
In 2018 God called Michelle back into music, writing and leading worship. She frequently leads worship for women's conferences and events, and in churches around the country. She is a worship leader at The Exchange in Nashville, TN, and a member of The Arise Gathering, a women's event meeting in cities around the country for prayer, worship and prophetic ministry.
Schorp says about her new single: "Everyone of us is in some sort of battle... We are all standing and believing God for something... That was the message that was rattling around in my heart when I went into a writing session with my friend/producer, Nate. This melody was swirling around and the words, "You Fight for Me" happened pretty quickly into the session.
The idea that God fights for us and that we aren't battling alone was something we connected to right away. What truths have we learned over the years? That God fights for us, that He doesn't leave us and that He is who He says He is even when we can't feel it. We finished this song in one afternoon, we were so blown away. In the most honest way I can say it, we didn't write this song, God truly wrote it and we just recorded it. We pray its an anthem that people can sing when they need encouragement and need to be reminded that God is fighting battles FOR them."
