Meghan Markle's Former Catholic School Teachers Call Her "Remarkable"- "She Always Took it A Step Further"
Meghan Markle is being praised for her tenacity by her former teachers in Los Angeles, California. The “Suits” actress spent several years at the Immaculate Heart High School, and the teaching staff still remembers her passion for learning, two decades after she left.
Prior to her wedding to Prince Harry of Wales, which has been scheduled to take place in May at the St. George’s Chapel in England’s Windsor Castle, the actress will go through baptismal and confirmation rites in the Church of England. The church announced such event last month, with Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, being the Church of England’s supreme governor.
Christine Knudsen, a former senior elective teacher of Markle, recalled how the 36-year-old actress had been a strong go-getter. Prior to taking part in acting on network television, Markle had already been vocal about her passion for the arts.
"She loved to sing. She loved to act, but she also had that depth, which kind of moved into all of her other subjects," Knudsen recalled, telling ABC's "20/20". "And that was what came through in the end."
Maria Pollia, Markle’s theology teacher in her junior year, also opened up about the actress’ approach to learning, recalling how she was more than enthusiastic when given the material.
"She always was able to go deeper and to really challenge herself, which is something that one looks for and hopes for with students, that they'll take what you give them and then take it for themselves, make something important for themselves,” Pollia told 20/20.
While Markle has not openly expressed her religious stance to the public in her adult life, Metro UK reported that her mother, Doria Ragland, is Protestant while her father, Thomas Markle, practices Episcopalian beliefs.
In 2011, the humanitarian campaigner tied the knot with Jewish Hollywood producer Trevor Engelson but divorced two years later. Although the Church of England has shown opposition to divorce in the past decades, church leader Justin Welby expressed his delight over the fact that Markle will exchange wedding vows with Prince Harry in a Catholic setting.
"I am so happy that Prince Harry and Ms. Markle have chosen to make their vows before God," Welby stated. "I wish them many years of love, happiness and fulfillment and ask that God blesses them throughout their married life together."
