Jaci Velasquez Talks About Her New Movie & Worship Record
Bilingual, multi-Platinum selling recording artist and actress Jaci Velasquez recently released her first, full-length studio album in over five years from Integrity Music. The highly-anticipated, critically acclaimed recording, both the English-language version, Trust, and Spanish-language Confío, is now available globally in over 160 nations. A Billboard Latin Music Award winner with five Spanish albums to her credit, this marks the first time for Velasquez to simultaneously release an album in both languages.
Morever, she is also involved in the new faith-based movie "A Question of Faith." The movie is the first of its kind in the space to have been produced by an African American female producer-and the first faith based feature for veteran producer Angela White of Silver Lining Entertainment. The film features a well-known cast, a unique and compelling storyline that touches on timely topics such as racial prejudice, the debate surrounding organ donation, while intertwining a strong Christian message.
"A Question of Faith" will release from Pure Flix on September 29, 2017 in more than 600 theaters. The film has been a resounding success in early screenings. "Churches have been resonating with the film's message and many are buying out multiple screens for opening," noted White.
"A Question of Faith" features a moving storyline involving three families from different cultures, who live in the same community; they are complete strangers living vastly separate lives until a texting and driving accident thrusts them onto converging paths where they discover God's love, forgiveness, grace and mercy.
Q: Jaci, thank you so much for doing this interview with us. Congratulations on your new movie, "A Question of Faith." What is your role in the movie?
I play Kate Hernandez, a mom who worries about and wants the best for her daughter.
Q: What first attracted you to the movie script?
I loved the title! There are times in life when situations and circumstances push us so far that we question our faith. It's an honest struggle that most Christians experience.
Q: All throughout your career, you have been trying to overcome the race and language barriers of different cultures with your music. Why is overcoming racism so important to you?
I have kids and they are obviously Latin. I never want them to feel different from others... we are all God's children and He loves us the same!
Q: How do you think this movie will help viewers overcoming such divides?
Tragedy can strike anyone at any time and our skin color has nothing to do with it. "A Question of Faith" makes us think about what we will we do when it comes to loving one another and helping each other. We have to open our eyes and hearts to each other and be the change we hope to see in the world we live in.
Q: You have also just released a new album "Trust." It's a little different from your previous release in the sense that it's a worship album. Why did you decide to do a worship record?
I'm a preacher's kid... I grew up in church, worshiping. But I'd never made a worship album and I didn't know much about worship music as a "genre" within Christian music. So, at first I was unsure. But God of course spoke to me the way He knew I would hear and that was through my youngest son, Soren. After Soren had a nightmare, I played a demo song from Integrity Music called "God Who Moves The Mountains." We just closed our eyes, prayed and let the words of the song wash over us. It completely calmed Soren and our lives were changed in that moment when God met us there in a song.
Q: Is this album a one-off effort with Integrity music? Or do you intend to make more worship albums in the line of "Trust"?
I truly hope and pray to continue making music like this project. It has resulted in so many God moments night after night on tour with tears and goosebumps when we share these songs.
Q: What's next for you in terms of your acting career as well as music?
I start a new film the day after our tour ends and there are two other projects in the works as well. So it's a great but busy season... stay tuned!
