Derrick Starks Gathers Friends & Family for Conference & Live Album Recording
The Motor City has been synonymous with Gospel music for more than 50 years, and award winning songwriter and producer Derrick Starks builds upon that legacy with the revival of the Family and Friends Workshop and Live Recording, taking place on August 19th weekend.
D Starks Family and Friends Workshop is for music ministers, musicians, singers, songwriters, praise and worship leaders and singers and other creatives who are currently involved in music or are aspiring to a career in music. Starks commented, "we know there are many conferences throughout the year, GMWA, Dorsey Convention, The Collective and so on. They all serve as a great time of fellowship and a great place to learn. It was my desire to have something in Detroit for our area and the surrounding areas that would address the needs of our music community."
Family and Friends will bring to the city of Detroit some of the nation's finest and well respected music professionals to offer insight and information in the business of music. Award winning songwriter David Bratton (Every Praise), Master Producers J Drew Sheard III (Karew Records) and Fred Jerkins (Darkchild Gospel) and Emmy Winner Elijah Lewis are but a few of the facilitators and noted Pastor, Bible Teacher, songwriter and accomplished musician Dr. Hart Ramsey will address the gathering on Saturday.
On Monday, the 100 + Family and Friends Choir will take the stage for the live recording with featured performances from Dorinda Clark Cole,Bishop Neal Roberson, Kevin Stewart, the Ginyards and more. "I am grateful to say the power of God has met us in rehearsal, Starks said. "If the Church we've been having in rehearsal is any indication of what's coming at the recording, then we are in for a demonstration of God's power and presence. The songwriter submissions were superb, and there is something for everybody. We've got a really good church medley. some fantastic worship music, alongside the stuff that choirs do on Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon."
Starks celebrates another milestone as Hang On, his number 1 radio chart topping composition from the GEI Live project featuring Kierra Sheard has reached over 1.6 million views on YouTube. "All I can say is Thank You Lord, Starks commented. "No one knew that song would have such an impact. I am blessed with the opportunity to hear Bishop Sheard weekly encourage the saints to hang on in there. I can't ever forget my foundation, which is why we will remember Ron Winans during the recording. It was at Ron Winans' Family and Friends where I was afforded the opportunity to present a song that I wrote and have it recorded. I believe that your gift will make room for you and bring you before great men. We're responsible for training the next generation of songwriters and musicians for service and to take the message to the masses."
