Long Hollow WAVE Shares About Their Ministry & Their New Album
Long Hollow WAVE is a worship band and ministry based out of Long Hollow Baptist Church outside of Nashville, TN. They lead students every week in worship as well as travel around the country leading at student events to draw people closer to Jesus through music. They have a massive passion for writing songs for the local and global church.
Upside Down album by Long Hollow WAVE includes seven songs recorded live at Long Hollow student camp and three studio tracks. This album consists of high energy songs/anthems for churches to lift up.
Q: Thanks for doing this interview with us. Let's start with your name Long Hollow WAVE, what's the significance of your name, especially the WAVE part?
A: Long Hollow WAVE is a movement of young people all heading in one direction to bring glory to Jesus and revival to the world. The name WAVE comes from the desire to be a fired up, give-everything, lay-it-all-down generation that moves with the current of God.
Q: You have a specific burden to bring students to worship and to know Christ. How did this passion begin?
A: The passion to lead students in worship and to know Christ has been around since Long Hollow has existed as a church. We as a student worship ministry count it a privilege and make it a priority to point people to Jesus every single time we lead students in worship. We believe that there's something powerful when students gather TOGETHER to worship. The burden for us continues and grows every time we do.
Q: How many students now gather to worship? And how often do you meet?
A: Hundreds of Long Hollow students meet every week at both our Hendersonville and Gallatin locations outside of Nashville, TN.
Q: What attracts these students to come?
A: One of the biggest reasons our students are coming to church is that they know that they're going to be fed by the word of God and be able to use what they're learning on Wednesday nights to impact and change their community, schools, and families around them.
Q: Congratulations on the forthcoming release of your new album. Why do you call it "Upside Down"?
A: "Upside Down" comes from the passage in Acts 17 where a small group of Jesus followers were sold out to turn the world upside down through their bold faith in the gospel. This was the theme of our summer camp this year with the desire for our students' lives to be turned upside down in a way that causes their actions to follow in world-changing, revival starting ways.
Q: Seven of the songs were recorded live. What were some of the highlights in the recording of the album?
A: Some of these songs off of "Upside Down" were introduced for the first time at camp where we recorded the album. Witnessing students screaming out at the top of their lungs lifting up the name of Jesus through our music was incredible. In a lot of ways, camp is a steak in the ground, with many monumental moments for our students. Long Hollow WAVE gets to be a part of these moments where students are encountering God, some for the first time ever.
Q: What are you most excited about this record?
A: I think what we're most excited about this record is giving our local church and the global church songs to help their walk with Jesus. We get to uniquely do that through music, which fires us up.
Q: What are your hopes and dreams for this record? How do you wish this album would impact the lives of your listeners?
A: The songs that Long Hollow WAVE goes beyond one writer, one worship leader, one musician. We're already hearing stories about how these songs are impacting students' lives and we can't wait to hear more. Our hope and prayer is that the truth in our songs would impact and shape lives in our church AND churches all over the world.
