Keith & Kristyn Getty Debut At #4 On Billboard Chart With New Album
Facing a Task Unfinished, the new studio album from Keith and Kristyn Getty, the world-renowned modern hymn writers whose songs are sung by an estimated 100 million people each year in churches and concert halls on every major continent, debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart and at #4 on the Billboard Top Christian/Gospel chart for the week ending June 23, 2016. This marks the Gettys' highest ever debut on the Billboard chart.
The Gettys achieved additional milestones for the debut of Facing a Task Unfinished, hitting #1 on the Christian Retail Praise/Worship chart and #1 on the UK's Official Chart Top 20 Christian & Gospel Albums.
Facing a Task Unfinished went on sale June 17 and marks the first major release of new material since the Gettys' widely-embraced, Hymns for the Christian Life (2012). The new album features internationally renowned music artists Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Fernando Ortega, John Patitucci, and Chris Tomlin as special guests. It was recorded in Nashville's historic Ocean Way Recording studio with the production expertise of Nathan Nockels (Passion, Matt Redman) and the musical influence of the Gettys' musical director, Fionan de Barra (Riverdance on Broadway, Moya Brennan, Clannad).
The album was inspired by the hymn, "Facing a Task Unfinished," originally written in 1931 by China Inland Mission (now OMF International) worker Frank Houghton as a call for missionaries to go into the heart of China while facing harrowing persecution. Moved by the powerful hymn, more than 200 missionaries soon set sail to plant the seeds of the Gospel in that country, resulting in what mission experts believe to be the greatest growth of Christianity in the history of the world - estimated to be between 80-130 million people over the last three-quarters of a century.
OMF International invited Keith and Kristyn Getty to re-visit Houghton's much loved and still timely hymn. With a new chorus added to reflect the present need for global evangelism, this anthem for Christian missionaries is being introduced to a new generation. The Gettys, along with their co-writers and publishers of the song, have assigned all royalties from its use to support the ongoing mission of OMF International.
"We are moved and honored that the album is resonating with so many across the globe," says Keith Getty. "We hope that the hymns on Facing A Task Unfinished are a source of encouragement during times of peril and inspiration for continued action for global missions."
The first video from Facing a Task Unfinished is "Living Waters." It was filmed by noted filmmaker Andy "Hutch" Hutchison (Van Morrison, Chris Tomlin) who also directed the Gettys' 2015 Joy-An Irish Christmas public television special that aired to 45+ million households last holiday season.
