Dorinda Clark Cole, Brian Courtney Wilson, Jonathan Nelson & Others to Sing at the 1ST ANNUAL MUSICAL SOUL FOOD FESTIVAL
While thousands of people are planning to hit the Essence Festival in New Orleans next week or the Hampton Jazz Festival this week, thousands of gospel music lovers are planning to converge on the Hampton Roads (the cities of Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Poquoson, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach and Williamsburg) area of the state of Virginia for the first annual Musical Soul Food Festival that features a who's who of today's top gospel music acts.
The two-day family-friendly event kicks off Friday, June 24th @8 PM with the Black Gospel Promo 15th Anniversary Indie Artist Showcase & Comedy Jam. The big bash celebrates BGP founder Veda Brown's groundbreaking work in faith-based digital marketing. The free event takes place at the Chesapeake Marriott Hotel Ballroom (725 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake, VA) and features an array of nationally-known indie gospel stars such as BET "Sunday Best" contestant Latice Crawford, quartet king Damon Little, blue-eyed soulster Bryan Popin and the electrifying Chrystal Rucker among others.
The actual Musical Soul Food Festival takes place Saturday, June 25th from 3:00 to 9:00 PM on the sixty-acre Chesapeake City Park in Chesapeake, VA. The concert will be hosted by TV legend Dr. Bobby Jones who closes the 35th season of "Bobby Jones Gospel" for the BET cable network this summer. Among the headlining gospel all-stars are as Grammy Award winner Dorinda Clark Cole, Brian Courtney Wilson, Jonathan Nelson, Melvin Williams of the Williams Brothers, Virtue, J.J. Hairston & Youthful Praise, Ruth La'Ontra, Bryan Andrew Wilson, Dottie Peoples, Earl Bynum, Micah Stampley, Charles Butler & Trinity, The McDonald Sisters and more. Aside from a full day of great inspirational music, there will be concurrent activities for young adults and children ranging from basketball challenges, volleyball, Zumba, line-dancing, fitness aerobics in the We-Fit Zone, food vendors and more.
