Q: Thanks for doing this interview with us. Previously you were a very well-known DJ working in nightclubs, tell us a little bit more about you work then.
Yeah! I worked at a residency in Dickinson, ND getting exposure at what I loved to do... At first, it was just an idea brought to the club owner, Matthew Lyons, but he saw something in me and we ran with the idea and that led to other opportunities throughout the state...
Q: Later, you felt a calling from God to minister in Christian music. How did that call come about?
I've felt a call into ministry when I was 16, and pretty much had kissed that away as I went through my older years... But, the one thing I told myself before performing in clubs was that when it ever became something for money, I was going to be done... Ironically, I had resigned from my other job and felt the club was nothing more of a paycheck at that point so I decided to venture out into ministry, giving my all to the cause...
Q: How then did you meet with producer and songwriter David Thulin leading to your new EP "The Awakening"?
I was signed to a local label in the Twin Cities, and they had connections with David Thulin... We just meshed well from the start, and once I left that label, it was something that was both on our hearts to work together!
Q: How would you describe the sound of your music?
My sound describes me: electronic, hype, energetic, and UNIQUE... I don't want to be put in a box and each one of these tracks give the listener something that they can relate to in one way or another... At the end of the day, it definitely has EDM roots to it, but we wanted to branch out of that to give it more than just the cliche touch...
Q: You also have a few notable guests on your new EP, one of them is Emily from SHINEBRIGHT. How did you get to work with her?
I linked up with Emily through David Thulin... Emily is an outstanding vocalist, and we had a blast in the studio that day!
Q: For some of our readers who may not have heard your new song "Stories" yet, what's the song about? And what's the story behind it?
Stories is my favorite track on the EP! It describes all the emotions that went through venturing out from small town life to trying to make it on my own... It illustrates the ups and downs of pursuing my dreams, and in the midst of that, God being in the thick of it working our story out for his good...
Q: How do you think your new EP will challenge listeners in their walk with Christ?
I think for anybody out there that's felt the risk of stepping out onto the waters of which God has called them will be encouraged by this EP! It speaks of the raw experiences that believers will face when pursuing the call God has on their life... Awakening describes the experiences when people are telling you to give up, to pack it in, but you decided to stay in the tension to wait on God's perfect timing... And through that, the songs show the other side of getting past the difficulties and seeing God bring his perfect plan about in my life!
