Melinda McGlasson on Her New Album "Spirit Break Out:" "God Wrote these Words Just for Them"
After nine years of serving at her local church with her husband Dallas (Senior Pastor) and leading worshipweekly with her team "Lifeway Worship," Melinda McGlasson (Guymon, OK.) spreads her wings flying solo for thefirst time. While she will continue to lead worship and serve in her local church, Melinda now fearlessly takes astep in a new direction.
For this mother of three, (Isaiah, Grayson & Blake) this new direction is a bold one that forges a new path andjourney for Melinda, opening up a world of possibilities rooted in her desire to expose her heart and soulthrough music. Melinda is now stepping out from the confinements of her surroundings to release her first International debut solo project "Spirit Break Out," via Redemption World label.
Q: Melinda, thank you for doing this interview with us. Tell us a little about yourself.
Hi, I'm Melinda McGlasson. I am married to my best friend, Dallas. He and I have three handsome boys, Isaiah, Grayson and Blake. We have been in full time ministry for fourteen years. I lead Worship and my husband is the Senior Pastor @ Lifeway in Guymon, OK. I began writing songs when I was thirteen and dared to dream by introducing my songs to our Youth group. Writing music to me is a therapy! To realize that I am literally being used by the Lord to write words down that He wants to speak or sing over others is such an honor. I chose to sign with Redemption World Records in January 2016 and I firmly believe that God is doing a good thing in this ministry. Q: You have been leading worship for some time, why did you decide to step forward to record a solo worship album?
I truly believe that God births these desires in our hearts and when it is time for the revealing we simply have to go with it. I just knew that God brought this to me, not something that I tried to pursue on my own but what He wanted for such a time as this. So, "Here I am Lord, send and use me!"
Q: What are your goals when you made your album "Spirit Break Out." How do you wish this new record could impact your listeners?
My prayer is that every person who listens to this album feels that God wrote these words just for them. I pray that it leaves the listeners wanting more, but more than that may they feel revived, refreshed and comforted to know that God understands them right where they are.
Q: Though many of the songs are very personal, but I can see some of the songs being worship tunes sung in church, particularly "Adore," "Be Bold, Be Strong" and "Great is Your Faithfulness." Was it your intention to write songs both for congregational worship and personal devotions?
Absolutely! It's hard for a Worship Leader to write songs that are not congregational friendly. Rather an individual is driving down the road listening or singing or an entire congregation is worshiping to one of the songs you mentioned, I pray that each person has an encounter with Christ as they let the words wash over them.
Q: I believe you wrote all the songs on the album. Does writing come easy for you? Which song on the album did you struggle with the most? And why?
Writing does come easy! I never want to take that for granted but these particular songs came in a couple of weeks time. On one of the songs I took a chorus from the beginning of a song I had began to write and a verse from another song I could not seem to finish and before I knew it, "Lullaby," was created. I think the Lord likes to keep me on my toes to show me that He's in charge of the writing. Forcing the pencil to paper would lead me to create a bunch of random songs. I do not want another song, I want an inspirational piece that I or someone else can live by.
Q: I especially love "Lullaby." It's actually a lullaby by God the Father to us. What inspired you to write this beautiful song?
This is my favorite song as well! I love the scripture in Zephaniah 3:18 that talks about God rejoicing over us, that He in fact sings over us and that ministers to me so much. This song is an insight to my relationship with the Lord and more than that, a prayer over us and to Him wherever we are in our walk with Jesus.
Q: Are you currently touring in promoting your album? If so, where can our readers go to find out more about your touring dates and your music?
