Scotty McCreery Talks About Parting with His Record Label & His Christian Faith
Americn Idol's Scott McCreery has never been shy about his faith in Jesus Christ. Recently, he has been in a pickle when he parted ways with his record label Mercury/Interscope Records. Ever since his win at season 10's American Idol, McCreery has been signed to the imprint. He has released two studio albums and one Christmas album, each debuting at No. 1 with combined sales of more than 2.5 million copies. In 2011 he won the ACM Award for New Artist of the Year, and in total he delivered six singles. "See You Tonight" was his highest-charting song, peaking at No. 8 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.
Due to the downward turn of the music industry and McCreery's latest single "Southern Belle" not being a hit his record company hoped for, McCreery has parted ways with Mercury/Interscope. "I enjoyed being on Mercury Nashville / Interscope and I appreciate all the great people who worked hard on my behalf while I was there,"
McCreery tells Taste of Country in a statement. "I am excited about what the future holds and the opportunities being presented to me."
Nevertheless, McCreery has recently recorded a new album for his former label. The new untitled album contains his most recent single "Southern Belle." It is expected that the album will now be shelved for a indefinite time, a disappointment to the fans of the former Idol champ.
McCreery was raised a Southern Baptist, During his time at American Idol, he has often credited Jesus for both his voice and getting him through the American Idol competition. McCreery has expressed that he wants at least Christian song on any of his albums, like his idol Josh Turner, saying: "One thing I love about Josh Turner is his faith, that's why I looked up to him so much. All the albums he's had have had at least one Christian song, like 'The Answer' on his last album and 'Long Black Train.' So I'm hoping to have that on my album - that one Christian song."
