What's Next for the Voice's Barrett Baber?
Though Barrett Baber did not take home the crown at this year's NBC The Voice, the singing contest has given him a new sense of condidence and a legion of fans who hang on his every word. So, what's next for Baber? He's flying back to Arkansas today, but then it's right back to work.
"I'm going to be playing a lot of live shows in the next few months, getting out there, writing a lot of new songs, certainly promoting my EP now and we'll see what happens as far as Universal Music Group is concerned. They have the option to give me a record deal if they want to and that would be great. You know either way, I feel like this is a really substantial step in the right direction. I'm just super excited about what the future holds," Baber says.
Although Baber didn't win, he already felt like a winner. "Once you make it to the final four, it's already a big victory, just being able to sing on TV so many times in front of so many people. Now I really want to cement the kind of artist that I am and the kind of music I want to make."
Born and raised in Marion, Baber graduated from high school in 1998 and went to study at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia. It was there that he learned to play guitar and began writing songs, while also singing with the college choir. After a brief spell in Nashville, Baber finished his degree and has since been balancing a music career - he has released three albums since 2004 - and a series of day jobs.
So, how has his appearances at the Voice changed him? Barrett said the self doubt is gone, he knows he will have a successful music career and he's looking forward to making it happen just as he's made all of his other dreams come true. But he said this dream needs to come all the way true. So, you'll definitely be seeing a lot of Barrett Baber in the future.
But this is definitely not the end for the singer-songwriter, who has a busy few months ahead.
