'Ipad Air 2 VS Surface Pro 3': Which Slate is Better?
Apple will be challenged by its competitors as it is about to release its new device, the iPad Air 2, into the market soon.
As revealed by Straitstimes, the new Apple iPad Air 2 is much thinner than its predecessor. The device is only 6.1mm thick, which is 18 percent thinner and 8 percent lighter than the original iPad Air. This marks the iPad Air 2 as the slimmest tablet in the market. It tops Sony Xperia Z2 tablet, which is 6.4mm, and Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5, which is 6.6mm. Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is 9.1mm thick.
The iPad Air 2 features a 9.7-inch retina display with 2,048 x 1,536 pixel resolution. Its size suggests convenience due to its portability and thinness. It also has fingerprint resistant coating, just like its predecessor. This technology decreases the glare made by the device by more than 56 percent. On the other hand, Business News Daily reveals that the Surface Pro 3 features a 12-inch screen with 2160 x 1440 pixel resolution, which is wide enough for users to edit documents or spreadsheets.
Apple iPad Air 2 features an A8X chipset plus a CPU that is 40 percent faster than the original iPad Air. Its GPU is also 250 more powerful. Another reason to purchase the upgrade, iPad Air 2 will also include Touch ID and Apple Pay. Microsoft Surface Pro 3 has an Intel Core i3 processor with 4GB of RAM, sufficient enough for tasks like photo editing and spreadsheet computations. It doesn't have Touch ID but you can keep a password and use any Windows antivirus and malware program.
The iPad Air 2 provides access to Apple's App Store, where you can find the top-notch mobile business and productivity apps. Individual apps can also be locked using Touch ID. The Surface Pro 3 presents the complete desktop version of Windows 8, ensure its compatibility with the programs in your computer. Multiple apps can also be viewed at once.
With regard to the accessories, Bluetooth keyboards are available for Apple iPad Air 2. To add, different styluses are available for more natural handwriting. The new Type Cover keyboard dock, however, is compatible for the Surface Pro 3. The keyboard's touchpad is big and highly responsive. Surface Pro 3 comes with a stylus. You can write notes or even draw diagrams on Pro 3's pressure sensitivity system. Pro 3 is also compatible with a desktop dock that has three USB 3.0 ports and two USB 2.0 ports.
As far as the price is concerned, iPad Air 2 starts at $499 with 16GB of storage, as per Yahoo. You can upgrade it to 64GB of storage for $599, or 128GB for $699. You can also add LTE capabilities to any model for an extra $130. The Surface Pro 3 is more expensive as it starts at $799 with an Intel Core i3 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of onboard storage. The model with Intel Core i5 processor with 4GB and a 128GB SSD is $999. Then, the model with Intel Core i7 processor, with 8GB of RAM and 512GB is at $1,949.
While they are designed with different purpose, both devices unleash their own set of strengths. It is up to the customers on which tablet satisfies their needs.
